I think everyone should read Delmars book, lots of good stuff in there. Don't over think it, just pick the line you want and go for it.

I like Odysey kennels stuff for a shorthair. DC lines do it all and look great doing it.

I "Free feed" my dogs, Delmar says keep the feed pail full and dog will eat only what he needs, feed him a little bit twice a day that pup will eat everything put down in front of him. I find this to be a true statement. Keep the food bucket full and pup will be better off for it.

Yes, they need to have both. I have a FT bred female I got awhile back. She is a lot smaller than the one I have out of a DC. The line breeding will make a smaller dog IMHO.
