I think it is all about being able to "read" the dog. That's what makes a good trainer able to train dogs that are more sensitive. Weims aren't always sensitive but they will shut down if they are trained in a harsh manner. Pearl (who ran with Sally in SH at the GSP tests) is not really sensitive bu...

I love it when judges assume, because I have sold a lot of "iffy" bird work as a stop-to-flush. Most of the time it was a legitimate STF, but I was the only one who saw the bird fly. Depends on what you call "iffy" and what level of testing it is at. In Master I dont' allow for any "iffy" bird work.

the judges don't see the dog standing before they see the Huns flush, do they just assume that the dog was pointing them, or do they judge it as a stop-to-flush? In a hunt test situation I would give the dog the benefit of the doubt and do a call-back. Judges must remember that we are not out to tr...

This dispute has always baffled me, as I seem to recall hearing from many folks who both trial and hunt wild birds that say they allow their dogs to do things while hunting wild birds that they clean up when the games start. Their dogs adjust. That's what I try to do with mine. I also don't want a ...

To me training for tests and training to hunt are two different things. The training is all the same. Training a dog to be steady to wing and shot for tests is the same as it is for wild bird hunting. What is different is the WAY that the dog handles the hunting situation. Without tests/trials any ...

The name is familiar. Does Chris do any trialing? I train with Mark Fulmer at Sarahsetter Kennel in Aiken, SC. Didn't know if you got your dogs from him. The more I am around setters the more I like them! I just don't like the shedding. I had a friend who had a Weim and that got me interested in the...

What you just said sugest's to me that all the good Weim's are either dead or or live a continent away from you. They are fairly rare around here also but they are here! You should see the Weims in my area! Pitiful in the field. I judged a hunt test last Nov. for a Weim club not far from me and it ...

Whoa hold on a minute, Don. It depends upon the breed. You are talking Pointers. They are a dime a dozen. Depending upon the breed you may have to go clear across the country or another country for that matter to find the correct stud dog for your bitch. Then you have the cost of semen shipment, imp...

Hi there. Just a little introduction to everyone. As my screen name implies I am a Weimaraner owner/breeder. I do hunt tests, field trials, and oh yea I show them too! I live in S. Carolina and currently have 4 Weims at my house with a litter due next week. Ch Cherrystone Perl of Sagenhaft SH,SDX,NR...
