Re: Dog Food
I've been using the Diamond Puppy (purple bag) for the last 2mos or so. My 5 mos GSP looks and acts great (coat, energy, etc.) but after I switched to it, I've noticed some of her BM's are loose and she gases everyone out when she's in the house. Anyone else had these problems? I've thought about a...

I don't think you'll find many judge's that will carry a dog after it makes a mistake. But if what we are looking for the best dog, then you simply can't pick up a dog for say happy feet. The dog should always be given the chance to redeem itself. problem is that all dog's have a flaw here and ther...

Same thing happened to me in a A.F. shooting dog trial . The dog brought the bird to me. The judge felt the bird and said it was warm, so it was counted against my dog as "jumping" a bird, and I had to pick her up. Seemed right to me. Excellent advice on this thread. ; once again it is the use of birds that will solve a problem. I once used a tip from Dave Walker. The situation was the dog was about 3 years old, green broke and had received excessive use of a ecollar. He yo-yo'ed because he was cautious and insecure. Walker suggested "in this situation" that every time he came back to me, I leashed him up and we had a short...

Just keep running him and keep quite. He will get bored with you and venture out further and further as time goes on. Get him on a fence line and turn him loose. Make a note on how far he runs until he peels off in a different direction. The next time plant a bird in a launcher about ten yards furth...

I have a Pro 100 gen 2 and use level 2 for most of my dogs. I always test the collar on my own neck before putting it on them. I can barely feel a 1 and the 2 just gives me a "twitching " sensation. Chase but don't catch...Homer's work well in launchers. For me, when they hold to the flush it's time to start the STWS process. As Mo Lindley says " put as much prey drive in the pup as you can" since the breaking process always takes a little out of them no matter how good a trainer you are.

BetheBrit,
You need to stop what you are doing and enroll in a Huntsmith foundation seminar. You need to learn the "right way" to use a checkcord and flank training. No offense, as I did the same thing years ago.

After a half dozen or so dual cues, you drop the checkcord and use voice o...

I agree with Shags. It's not unusual for a athletic dog to shake (quiver) when they anticipate a run. My guys do it on a chain gang at a field trial regardless of the temperature.
