As for the original post - I tried Pro Plan but didn't find it as good as the Eukanuba. Won't save any money with that switch though.

Wouldn't take much thought here. Two of the best shorthairs I have had the priviledge to watch work a hunting field and compete in trials were solid liver dogs.

Bird flying means whoa, dead bird falling means whoa and live bird walking around means whoa. Works really well. Draw back one time. Little pointer I was working in the field with had a bird fly over and she hit the brakes till I sent her on. She turned into a really nice dog! I certainly wouldn't ...

You have seen the dog run and hunt - no need to work on that. You have seen the dog point - no need to work on that. You are back to the yard to work on the next step. Work on your whoa. I assume he will stop and stand on whoa. Work him on extending the time he will stay on whoa with no real distrac...

My experience has been that English Pointers, Setters, and Brittany's have a better on/off switch than GSP's and GWP's. Other folks mileage may vary.

Individual dogs aside, I have found it to be generally true that the setters are a little more touchy feely than the pointers.

Slistoe, I feed twice a day. He really isn't that food crazy. I can pick up his food/bully stick/bone or whatever anytime straight from his mouth and won't get any type of negative reaction from him. That is good - but you really need to find a way to safely and quickly cure him of thinking he can ...

Does your dog get fed free choice or do you put feed out once/twice a day. I would suggest you put it out once per day and take control of the feed bowl. He doesn't get to eat till you say he can. Work on it so that if you tell him to stop eating and let you have the bowl back he will stop and let y...

If you feed him when YOU don't want to, you're reinforcing an undesirable behavior. Telling them to "shush" doesn't work. It'll take work on your part. EVERY time pup barks, go right back to the kennel, open the gate, pinch the pups jowls on his upper canines, and command NO!. One word, that's it. ...

I really doubt that the young pregnancy had anything to do with the fact the dog had painful joint problems - sounds more like a case of dysplasia which is genetic. Although it is generally recommended to have a dog at least 2 years of age before breeding, there are a good number of dogs bred at a y...

When I was a kid a buddy had a husky that loved to retrieve - but he was more than a little hard mouthed. But he sure was good at fetching shot muskrats and beaver - he would never back down even on ones that were chewing his lip as he brought them in.

All my Brittanys are wearing 1" nylon collars with center ring and D-ring. Bought them from the same place I bought the ones for my Lab. Not sure what the trouble is? In order for training to be effective you must be in control of the situation - find someone with a dog that is willing to assist you in training your dog. Set the dog up to meet in a familiar training place where your dog is quite familiar with obeying commands - with a staged situation and an acco...

No way to say really - too varied of a spectrum of opinion on "ideal". But I'm pretty sure that there would be almost unanimous agreement that a dog which you do not have control over would not be ideal.

Dogs rarely see everyone as equal, just as they do not perceive all situations and locations the same. Just as they need to be taught that the rules they learned in one location apply to all locations, they need to be taught that their response to one person needs to apply to all persons. This can b...

Doing the math on it - if you are feeding 3 cups of proplan 30/20 and add 2 tablespoons of lard you would then be at 30% fat content from the 20%.
