dhondtm, Let me start that if the Breeder did not do what I said does not make it a bad dog or bad breeder!!!! Lots can be done at 4 weeks of age. Pups are wheeling around and starting to explore, chewing sticks hoses leaves, grass a dog turd that I did not see, each other etc. I take my little ones...

Kevin, lots of people do. I am just one that does not. Let me explain a little on this of my idea. I look for a pup that is built to what I like, deep chest, tail set, etc...... and yes color and markings. I weight much more on the breeder as a person and the dad and mom of the pup. Example: My Niki...

You would have to believe in it to trust it! One of our most famous trainers ever Delmar Smith wrote books on the last puppy picked. Picking a good breeder and then a good bred is the key. I have had pups shipped in without even seeing a picture of them. Crap shoot at best but you can play more of a...

Agree 100% with concept. But as always not every dog is that same drive or intelligents. Take a pup from a well breed litter that has not had a proper upbringing and then is handed over to you. When the interduction to birds come along dog has no intrest. I as one to build this drive am going to mak...

""I know of a lot of folks that brag on JH titles or puppy and derby wins at trials."" I am one that likes to see a strong Puppy or Derby. Hunt Tests you must have passing scores in I believe 4 areas... Trainability, birdwork, Obediance Ground coverage you must mantain a 7 over all of them to pass. If you skip the JH and the SR you must pass the MH 5 times to be crowned. Might be 6 NSTRA you have to have 18 pts 9 of which are 1st place...

If the trained retrieve is not your cup of tea here is a few things you can work on. It sounds as if the dog is picking up the wing.. I would change the object over to a bumper. I would keep the check cord on and when he picks it up milk the dog back to you. If he will not hold it I would do as said...

I should be a little more clear on what I said before. I do believe that you should try to stay with some of the names in the line to represent a great line, but if I own the dog it will have my kennel name. An example is Elhew If I was a pointer guy I would for sure put my Kennel name with Elhew in...

TAK's GSP's "Clown"
In a short time of competing in sanctioned trials I think I have done well for my kennel..... At just 3 years old my buddy "Clown" won the Arizona Regional(NSTRA) and less than a month later gained his first Championship! Not to mention he was 3 legged at the time with a 2 1/4 in Russian Olive thorn...

Foods
There is alot to be said about dog foods. My advice is to choose one that is at least 24% Protien and 16% fat. There was a past post about the Diamond products. This past summer I feed the 24/20 and the 30/20 both gave me everything with performance. The Negitive factor was the waste and the smell o...

I have seen this name on many peds over the years, Blitzkrieg I am sure was a kennel....
The great thing is you get to name your dog what ever you would like. It always disapoints me to see the breeder demande his kennel name to be placed on the regestration
