i cant remember the last time i saw a high straight tail kill a bird... I personally don't chase dogs for the birds, I chase birds for the dogs. I mean I am not a bird hunter by any means, strictly a bird dogger. Any time I go into the field with my dogs I don't care how many birds I get so long as...

Post your favorite breed and why you prefer it. Also any stories of how you got into your breed would be great.

I've never owned so many dogs that I've had to put them in kennels. We've had up to six dogs at once and they're always all house dogs that get plenty of time in the yard and conditioning. However, I plan on building a set-up someday so I've kind of made a hobby of visiting all the kennels I can. Wh...

Ezzy, The more advanced titles are ok but those indicate training to me and not natural ability. I agree with this 100%. In a perfect world dog "trainers" would only be used by people who hunt and not trial or test. I believe that the people who handle dogs in these events were mearly "developers" i...

Brandon, do you have any pictures of your dog holding his tail high on point? I've looked, but never seen a continental breed with his entire tail. As far as pointer breeders docking tails, I knew about that. I also know a great breeder, www.numarkkennels.com, who has introduced Scottish lines into ...

I remember living on the outskirts of Tucson when I was about 10 or 11 with my aunt. She had a house that bucked up against a large amount of untouched land and I would go out to explore and look for scorpions, snakes, lizzards, rabbits, coyotes and everytime I went out I would always spook a covey ...

Docking Tails: Yes or No?
For all of you dog lovers of the docked tail variety, can you tell me why it is still common preference to dock tails? In my honest opinion, a pointer will be much better looking than a short tailed dog while on point simply because of the high tail and high head. I really wish we would quit docking...

I haven't been around anything having to do with NSTRA in awhile, but I was chatting with a rookie the other day and he told me that to earn a NSTRA Ch. you just have to get 10 pts. and it didn't sound right to me.
Can anyone tell me what the requirements are to attain a NSTRA Ch.?
Thanks,

Pointing Dog Titles
I know meat hunters don't really look at pedigrees as a general rule, they just want a good hunting dog. Then others who are involved in breeding and such will tend to follow one or at most a few lines or strains of dogs within their particular breed. So for those ofyou that do look at pedigrees and...

I think the reason for him chasing song birds and other animals is just him being a pup. GWP's aren't fast maturers. When you say he wants to do his own thing do you mean he doesn't want to listen to your commands or doesn't want to hunt near you? If he won't listen it's just because he's more inter...

Happy timing the the time before you start the dog on his formal training. All you do is take the dog out and let him have a ball learning how to "hunt", not point, retrieve or anything like that, just stretching his legs and having a ball. This is where he learns how to work the wind and hit object...
