Elk hunter, that is the best cover I have seen in two years. You must not have the draught conditions we have out here. Have a great year with the dogs. I'm pretty sure I would kill for that kind of cover over here. :)

I love my sxs but they kick like a mule. I'm inclined to flinch a little with heavy recoil so I shoot a beretta xplor 4 for most of my shooting. If I use my sxs twelves I shoot a 20 gauge load and get by ok.

There's trained and there's natural ability. I can train a poodle to point a lightbulb. Do you want a well trained parent or a product attained from the producer, littermate or direct offspring of a natural? Only a natural will attain the highest level of competition. Some dogs tire of pigeons and some rather quickly. You just have to switch to a different training bird. Some dogs catch on to training games and a person just has to be smart enough to see it. Use chukar or quail.

 This subject like many may be getting a little off track. What type of dog one owns very likely depends on what and where one hunts. As an example we hunt mostly chucker. I hunt AA bred pointers and have for more years than some of you have had dogs. One needs to understand that a big running dog does not run by birds 100 yds. away to find birds 500 yds. away. They will range until they find birds or you turn them or they turn themselves. I expect my dogs to stand ti...

In all my years of hunting, and that includes hunting coyotes, I have never seen a pack. The closest was three dogs following a gyp in heat. I have had dogs kill coyotes and never the other way around although a couple of dogs did get ate up a little. Now those fifty lb. coyotes in the north east wo...
