We dont have a ton of wild birds but I spend 20-30 days a year chasing birds. if you throw in doves and waterfowl I imagine I hunt closer to 60-70. Course now that ive graduated college thing may change. But teaching jobs are few and far between so I may get to hunt alot again this fall........

I also just teach my dogs to put their feet up on the tailgate and lift them in to the truck. whether the dog is jumping into the cab or on the tailgate there is a possibility of the dog missing the intended target and slipping, which can lead to torn ligaments and worse. just food for thought.

thanks for the help. I believe it was one of her posts about her DKs retrieving a fox for a test that I was thinking about. other than that from what I gather the GSPs and other versitiles are used for retrieval of shot game in a driven situation I guess

Ive got a buddy who shoots an older franchi 20ga that his grandfather gave him some years ago, in my opinion it is alot better firearm than the newer ones. the only newer Franchi that I have shot is the I-12 and its a nice gun but It doesnt have the feel of the older ones Ive used.

Im not very familiar with the breed but you might look into the Nova Scotia Toller. I dont think they are very big but Ive heard good things about them. I dont think you can really go wrong with either the Springer or the Boykin though.
