Re: Conditioning question
My vet told me that you should not run your dog for more than a mile or 2 until she is at least 12 months old and that I should wait until she is 18 months. The theory behind it is that her joints arent fully devoleped, or finished growing, until 12 to 18 months. So running them that much could, pot...

When to Spay
I was considering breeding my GSP but now am considering getting her spayed. My vet recommended to get it done as young as possible, i was raised to let them have at least 1 litter and have been told to wait till she has her first heat. Thoughts?????

Re: Feed Additives
jwnissen...Just out of curiousity, what's the significance of 36% protein She seems to do a lot better with less food. I was feeding her some food with less protein and fewer calories per serving and she looked too skinny so I kept feeding her more to help her gain weight. I was up to almost 3 cups...

Re: Feed Additives
The breeder I bought my GSP from feeds his puppies 1 tablespoon of real whole fat yogurt and 1 tablespood of 4% cottage cheese or higher fat content with every meal. He said an "old timer" he knew told him about this. He usually pulls one of the puppies out of his litter at 5 weeks to keep. He feeds...

If you look into it more, the article I read on Fox news said that he didnt even know that law existed! His guide should have known and should have been held accountable as well. He has apologized, paid his $10,000 fine and is not allowed to hunt or fish for a year. Everyone makes a mistake and he i...

Re: Training Material?
I myself have been asking this question a lot. I just met a man who has been training dogs for over 50 years and he told me that the "only" book you need is called Training pointing dogs by Paul long. I have breifly looked through it but it breaks the dogs, and training, down in a way that is easy t...

Re: Dog ate the frisbee
My 8 month old GSP eats EVERYTHING!!! Frisbees, balls, wood, siding on the house, garden hoses, towels, stuffed animals, dog beds, some of which I don't even know where she got it, to name a few. She is finally starting to grow out of that phase. I did take her to the vet because of vomiting and dir...

Re: is health insurance for dogs legit?
I bought VPI, recommended by our vet, and it was the best thing I could have done. I pay 33 a month and it has already paid for itself. Had a 284 vet bill and after the 100 deductible, I got 184 back. Just about to file the next for 84 and I expect to get most of that back. I did a lot of research a...

How much do you feed your GSP?
I have been talking to people and reading a lot about how much I need to feed my dog. She is an 8 month old GSP, 52 lbs, and only get her out into the field once or twice a week. For the most part we play fetch in my yard for about 30 minutes a day and she spends a few hours outside entertaining her...

Re: Question of the month!
Four weeks? Who let you take a pup out of the litter at four weeks? No reason at all why a dog can't be a house pet and a hunting dog. Both of mine are! I know 4 weeks is young, but her mother died when she was 9 days old. So they were bottle fed and I took her as soon as she was eating dry food. S...
