Re: Littermate syndrome prevention.
We kept two puppies from our litter. It wasn't planned. I let my husband choose our female "Franki" to keep, and I kept a male pup "Lucky" that wasn't spoken for. Lucky needed a baby canine tooth pulled, as it was leaning inward, and the vet wanted to wait until he was 10 weeks old. I was having wit...

Randy is a friend, and owns Corn Country Bretons, near Wilton. I don't know if he has a Spring litter planned, but he might, and I'm sure he'd help you find other breeders in our area.

Re: Brucellosis test
If you have a outside stud come in that was tested a year ago would that be ok? If you're really worried about Brucellosis, then year old results would be meaningless to me. As JKP mentioned, this is not just an STD. Just think of all the potential encounters a dog could have within a year, given h...

Short points and I've marked my collar strap with a sharpie to make sure I'm consistent on how tight I buckle it at for that dog. That solved my problem of being a softy and sometimes not tightening it up like it should have been.

I don't know if dogs ever have latex allergies like people, but maybe that toy has something in it like that? Seems doubtful though. Watch the bumps to make sure they don't turn into a staph infection. A few years back, after a Lepto shot, one of my dogs got welts on her muzzle. A few days later the...

This is a 2013 study of 759 Golden Retrievers, done by UC Davis, that you might want to read also. Please note that "neuter" is a non-gender term used for both males and females. The 2nd link is the more comprehensive findings, with tables and explanations. http://news.ucdavis.edu/search/news_detail...

I agree with what everyone is saying, more exercise is key, but also I would get some good bones from the Butcher for him to chew on that might help in trying to destroy everything. Instead of telling him what he can't do, give him something that he can do. Also letting a year old pup run lose in t...

Re: how does this whole selection system work
All are specific questions to ask your breeder. Some breeders actually go as far as picking puppies out for buyers, based on personality, usage, etc. I think most deals are first deposit gets first pick, and down the line in the order of deposit. That's the way both of the pups I bought were. I was ...

This is Franki on Thursday 5/23, at 8 days old. It's hard to tell, as I picked a P.C. photo I hope, but the fringe of hair is ringing a very blunt exposed scabbed over end. I guess we were blessed, as none of our pups left with visible bald spots. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa283/redhotroxi/...

However she stitched with the redock, it stayed much better, although Blaze lost 99% of the white tip of her tail and definitely ended up with 40% length. I wouldn't think the cold would be an issue normally, but if she is underweight and was soaked to the skin in cold weather, it could be a possibility. Did she recover to her normal self, now that you're not afield? If she's still sluggish, I would be worried about other possibilities. All 4 of my GS...

By the way you can use those numbers to breed the numbers lower in the whole group. It has been done many times to reduce the rate of disyplasia in the over all of a breed that had horendous hips. The only way for this statement to be valid is for entire litters to be x rayed time and time again. T...

Eight days after one of my female pups went home, her new owners got concerned about a urinary tract infection. She was acting fine, but squatting a lot, and having accidents that she hadn't prior. You say you take him out all the time. Does that mean at night too?
