B S-Good dog= good handler- good rsluts- may take a while and yes some judges are biased towards certain type of dog and handler etc BUT it ain't no different than horse shows- dog shows- etc-- best dog usually wins.

Great pics- reminds me of times we took our horses moose/ sheep /caribou hunting in AK 90-98 and also last year when we spent 2 1/2 mos hunting -riding in MT -our new flatland horses got used to Bob Marshall area real quick.

NONE of my retrievers have ever liked frozen birds- i teach FF with canvas then Dokken bumpers- no problems when we go to fresh birds.

Haven't seen shot a woodcock in many years as i lived in AK- moved to Wisc but not many in our area- then my young lab flushed one on our place last week and I heard 3 more- great if they are coming back. i will avoid that area of our place for a while now.

Realtors-local dog or hunt clubs etc-last year my wife & I rented a ranch house for 2 1/2 mos near Choteau- vey reasonable and lots of birds out our front door- i found it through friends and a realtor.

Shiney was a poor choice of wording-what i want is a burnished clean look- kind of like the rubbed finish on my rifle wood stocks --what they have today is a dull ugly look. Our saddles have been through a lot of riding in the 17 yrs since we bought them. thanks for replies and info.

If not FFed- do above if FFed- throw bumper and get to edge of water- as dog approaches, say hold -take bumper as/before dog comes out- then next time move astep back- keep do9ng this until it will come 10 yds etc from water- it should not take tool long- I have done this with my last three pups-

Perfect response to me--I use collar on young dogs every walk until I know they are deer proof- we live on a small farm with deer everywhere-- i do not want them chasing them EVER- hence I use a method similar to yuors- used same with variation for snake avoidance training also.

Just checked on shioe prices with wife--Sorry but I mispoke--We paid $70 per horse in MT and now are up to $55 in Wi. No horses ain't cheap- but compared to when I had 35 sled dogs and associated feed/ vet/racing bills, they are cheap. my wife really likes them and i like riding/ hunting with them-

Ditto that on Carlson's I have a set for my beretta O/U- 2 sk 1 mod- 1 full work just fine for shkeet/Sp Clays-- for dux/geese I have Terror .700 & .675- I like them but can't say if they are the best-I do NOT use/like wad restrictor chokes for fear of blowing up me gun barrel.

Been using Kent 3" for dux and 3 1/2" for geese for about 10 yrs-- at price you can't beat them- i shoot a fair amount(hit some times also) and have never thought they didn't do the job.

Maybe it's bacause a young dog will often exhibit this behavior and grow or be prompted out of it-- have you never been aggressive-I was looking for positive comments/possible answers. Thanks Robert Milner for yours.

I don't know about Techniques either but I use winter walks for heel/sit/ remote recall reinforcement--I use my shop for Place training, long sit, and to reinforce FF-Hold--Then on relatively nice days I do some bumper work in my fields--dogs love the snow and cold doesn't bother them--
