Re: Underground fence thoughts
I'm with Garrison. Underground fences do not keep other dogs from coming in. It is also quite possible that a young wirehair would get agitated by something outside the fence and barrel through. Further, he will pick up the habit of mindlessly barking at passing animals or people. How long are you p...

Good theory, but before you get carried away (possibly literally), I would do some research other than on a gun dog board. There are people who do this for fun, and there are attachments to your bike which will reduce the possibility of both of you getting killed. Look up the various biking dog spri...

Opinions vary, but I don't think anyone would describe it as "necessary," especially for a close ranging dog. I have hunted quite a bit with some top-flight bird dogs of two different breeds, including a FC and one that was halfway to a FC. Beeper always worked fine with me. But for those who claim ...

See if there are bird hunting preserves in your area. If you have access to wild birds, you may not want to join the preserve but they will have space and pigeons to train on. How much work you want to do based on the weather is up to you.

If your husband just works a couple of days a week, what's preventing him from putting in three five-minute cheerful and positive obedience sessions per day with a seven-month-old dog? Assuming the dog is healthy, of course, which is worth checking on, and that the weather is cool enough.

Nothing wrong with starting this way if you are talking about hunting rabbits. I can't see any negatives. Your problem is simply a lack of training and a lack of consistency. Admittedly, a young dog cannot concentrate or hold a sit as long as an older dog, but there's no reason he should act like a hooligan. First of all just teach him to hold a sit under distraction. You should do this in your backyard...
