I have a couple of questions. What do you mean she loses her drive in training? What do you mean by she cant keep up?
I don't train dogs together, since training programs are individualized. I train together after they are "completely trained", and then I teach them to honor another dog.

Re: when and how often should I shoot birds over pup?

I let the dog tell me when it is time to shoot birds. When a dog is holding point until the flush (all the sound conditioning done), I will shoot a bird for them. It is good to shoot a few and let a few fly off. It keeps up the intensity. If you can shoot 2-3 birds a week, that should be fine.

Futurity is a competition of pups and derbies that should be an indicator of future competitors. It is mostly breeders that must futurity nominate the litter for a pup to be ran in a Brittany futurity. The breeder and the owner both have to pay dues for the futurity litter then the pup.

You might set up a backing situation. Have the other dog point (and have the other handler hold the dog), bring your dog in for a back. If your dog doesn't back, just bring him in, and when he first sees the dog on point, "whoa" him. Then while the other handler holds the dog, you go flush the bird ...

If the dog likes to retrieve, then it just might do it. Many dogs dont like to start on doves, and they can cause bad habits. You might try quail first, if it has a retrieving instinct. As far as training it to retrieve as in a trained retrieve program, I wouldn't even attempt.
