Re: Ivehart vs Heartgaurd
The two are the same , except one is liver flavoured and one is pork flavoured. Not as many animal tests have been with Ivertguard then Heartguard so vets tend to choose the more tested product. Whether one costs more then the other depends on what product your vet uses. If she has to order special ...

I didn't want to say anymore then I have but........ :) Any concerns expressed have not been about the Dogo as a pup. They have been about the Dogo as a teenager/adult. It's great you are enjoying your pup. That's the way it should be. But continue to be realistic about possible concerns as the dog ...

Re: What breed?...
If you're interested in hunting ducks, geese, upland birds you'd be wise to get a lab. If you are only interested in upland birds, I have found an English Setter ( field) to be a fine hunter and inside dog. A Brittany would also suit your purposes as it is also a fine upland hunter and in house dog....

As you can see from the pics in the link, your dog will be VERY large. Unless you and your partner are in charge , he will assume that position. I advise professional training support.

Re: Re-using birds
I was thinking of tying a long string to a pigeon or quail's leg so that when they fly off I can get them back. That way I maybe only have to buy 4-5 birds a weekend instead of 10+ and can save myself some money. Does anyone have a decent method of letting the bird fly away but getting it back that...

Personally, I wouldn't be letting strangers reach out to pat this dog. If at 1.5 he's putting his tail between his legs and trying to back away he is obviously frightened - the next step is a bite - especially if someone keeps trying to pat his head and he can't get away because he's on a leash. Bee...

I can't imagine a dog would stay on a mat until it got burned. I use a mat and if the dogs feel too warm, they just move onto the floor. I'd bet it's pressure sores. which look very like burns.

When I started I thought that when the judge said, 'Pick up your dog.", I had to carry the dog all the way back to the car. :) They are many reasons to pick your dog up and yes the dog is no longer under judgement once you leash it - or collar it by hand. Retrieving depends on the kind of trial , as...

One of the blessings of dog ownership. Unless you're going to run around with a bucket of water to pour out everytime the dog pees, you're stuck with digging up and replanting every spring. I have 3 in the back yard.

The fact that he is reacting is showing you why the method works. If he didn't care about the rope he wouldn't learn to stand still. Lots of dogs will go snake when you tighten up around the abdomen. Keep the pressure there until he stops and then relax the pressure. He will soon learn that the onl...

amount of land for one thing. You need a lot of land to run a 30 minute trial - walking or horse. It also has to have suitable cover for the whole length of the course , not just a "bird field".

Some do . Many don't. You're talking about a dog that hasn't been properly socialized and is generally fearful at 6 months.

You're judged on the total 90 minutes. If your dog hasn't done much in 45 of a Championship of this calibre, he won't be able to make it up in 15 more. You have the previous dogs' runs to compare to also. In this Championship the bar was set high early. You show respect by not wasting the judges' an...

She was born dead and I had to suction here and breathe for her. Spent a lot of time putting her on a teat as the big boys would shove her off.
Nobody shoves her around any more. She's a fiesty , firecracker.

How often are you bathing pup? It is recommended that we seldom bathe with shampoo. A warm water rinse to get rid of mud etc. is better.
