Going the cheap route I have 8x8 pins one indoors and one out for each dog. They are all made out of cattle panels and 5ft tall woven wire fencing tied to the inside. The cattle panels are 16 ft long so thats how I come up with 8x8. Each kennel, inside and out, cost about $100.00. They may not be th...

Take the bird out and plant it. Then lead the dog into it and let the dog do whatever it wants with that bird! Chase it, catch it, Kill it, stand staunch and look confused. You cant go wrong with a pup as long as you are getting it into birds! Just make sure they are quail and keep it fun, no yellin...

Other than a dogs comfort, (mainly for pets) what is the purpose of the dog house heater? I have had dogs for 20 years and never even thought of putting a heater in one of their houses. I live in Kansas and the winters can get pretty cold, tonight 10 below wind chills. None of the 7 I own will be in...

If you look around here you can find TONS of info on trapping your birds. I dont really care what the excuse is I.E. Live in Town, worried what the neighbors will say, no access, there is a way to find the birds then catch them. Read the old posts and then check back. Catching birds or even buying t...

Greg has a very good point, find a mentor! This will make your adventure so much easier. If you are talking about starting training on a puppy then you will need to start with yard work. Work on getting a handle on the dog and having LOTS of FUN! You can start that as soon as you get the pup. Once y...

Sad but true fact, Nobody wants a pointer for hunting! Holy cow - My buddy's are in town right now with 3 pointers and 2 setters to go sharptail hunting. Amongst them they've got 1 Nat'l Am. Chukar Ch., 2 Open SD RU's Ch., and a Regional SD of the year but I guarantee you these guys wouldn't have a...

GMBRITTS, acutally I like your idea about having swivel hooks on each end of the droppers. I think have it that was also on mine, but for different reasons. I think the more swivels you have on that chain the better for the dog, less chance of them getting tangled up. Heck I am to dang lazy to be ta...

I would agree about putting some birds out for him. Atleast you will be able to see if he needs any work and if so on what. I would also put an end to the "free running". He might be obedient now, but after 2-3 hours a day now until hunting season I would venture to say you are going to have a VERY ...

There is a ton of walk in ground in Kansas, somewhere around a million acres. With that much ground you will be able to find somewhere. The Tuttle Creek area is nice, but if you know about it then everyone else does. You will be competing for those acres. In NE Kansas there arent as many areas as ou...

Another Bird Launcher Question
Hey all I have a quick question about the homeade bird launcher plans I found on here. I have been looking for the actuator arm that the design calls for, but I cant find one on ebay or the site partsexpress.com . When I say THE ONE, I mean the one pictured in the plans. I am wanting to avoid orderi...
