I have owned and showed walking horses. I showed "lite shod" and not "built up" but was still around many barns in Tn. / Kentucky that train all types of gaited horses, and I have riden them all. Yes, I am aware of those that "sored" horses, used chains as action devices etc. Having said that, I wou...

Views on what constitutes "style" change over time as well. I.E. when a setter was trained/bred to lay down so a net could be thrown over the game. Did this setter not have "style"? I may have been laying down in a way that the hunter thought was beautiful because it was efficient. A Setter standing...

Had a good hunt with a great friend. Hunted the Lower Bruhl Indian Reservation in South Dakota, the end of October. Hunted four days with 7 dogs. 4 of the dogs were around a year old, and learned a lot on the trip. Ended up with 20 roosters and 5 Prairie Chickens. The pups bumped numerous roosters w...

IMO, the thing to make sure of is that the pressure is released at the moment you intend it to be. It is important to make sure the half hitch is correct, and releases as soon as you release the "pull". Sorry, don't have any links to share.

Okay, I am almost ready to pull the trigger. I found a new Benelli Vinci for $1125.00 plus 6% tax = $1192.50 out the door. 5 chokes and a case. This 12 gage will be around 2 pounds lighter than my older ruger red label 20 gage. 5.5 vs. 7.5 approx. Does anyone have any negative comments on the vinci?...

Have used a Carhart coat with a vest over the top for years, but thought it might be nice to just have a coat.
What have you found to be successful for Quail, Pheasant, hunting. Also might mix in some Grouse and Woodcock hunting this year.

Size needed in dog box for large breed dogs

What are your thoughts on how wide the compartment needs to be? A three hole box has a width , in each box, of around 15 inches. Do you think that is wide enough for a large breed dog. I measured the two hole box and the width in each box is 19 inches and seems adequate.

I like a chain gang if you have other dogs available to put on it. The dog learns to give to the chain as the other dogs move around. Beats them learning at the end of my lead. I also use a flank hitch when starting the dog walking with me. They are much less inclined to pull and are more responsive...
