Re: I thought it was about the dogs
I've always felt it was an obligation to the dog to get it out in the sage or wherever to let them run and find birds. If you are going to own a bird dog you owe it that. To do what it was bred to do. Trying to put a percentage on who its for is tough. When my dog is flowing through the sage smooth ...

Re: are solid black GSPs rare
One solid and one black give you the chance of a solid black. I'm on my phone and can read only one pedigree. That one is outlander and Indian brooks stuff. They both outcross a little to sharpshooter. They both have used enzo a german import for stud. Enzo was black ticked and patched. Indian brook...

Re: Pinch (prong) collar, choke chain, or....??
Many years ago when my kids started training and competeing with dogs both in the ring and obedience. We took classes from probably 15 different trainers. A few for breed ring, most for obedience. I found huge differences in techniques and amount of pressure used. When I read, go find a trainer I cr...

Re: Pinch (prong) collar, choke chain, or....??
Check the Higgins video. Gentle but effective. No clue why it gets their attention when a choke chain doesn't but it works for me. Mine would pull and gag all at the same time. Tried the Higgins method. In 30 seconds we had a loose lead and looking at me to see where I was going.

Was having some trouble with the pup and swimming. She would go chin deep and couldn't figure out how to switch from walking to swimming. My last 3 and current shorthair have been FT bred. None having a real love of the water or a real natural retrieve but lots of ground speed and style. While researching for a new pup I've been considering a VC bred pup but don't know if they have enough ground speed and range for what I do. Foot hun...

Also try craigslist. Here in Washington there are 10 or 20 ads on right now. I got ferals 2 months ago that are sitting on 3 sets of eggs already. I'm picking up 15 unflown young white homers this weekend.

It's easy to let emotions over ride common sense. Yes, finish this one before starting the next. I'm a way's out. This one is a little on the lively side. The wife and I took a walk in the sagebrush tonight. She ended up out of hearing range no e collar on a little white dot cresting the hill. She i...

Went to a local nstra trial yesterday. I have never tested or been to a trial of any sort. After lurking for the last 9 months I decided to go watch a few different venues. So I found a nearby nstra trial here in eastern wa. My son and I had a great time. We talked to several people at the trial and...

I have a 10 month old gsp. She is pestering my old couch potato Rot to no end wanting him to play. I suggested to the wife that we get her a playmate. To my surprise she agreed. Wow! Hopefully was to early in the cycle. I miss counted long ago with my gsp. Found her hooked up with one of my 85lb grayhounds. Not being a breeder the decision was easy. I called the vet, explained, and had her spayed. Problem solved.

Had a standard dachshund. If I walked towards my farm truck that thing would come running.
He would jump and hit the back bumper shoot straight up. Hook the top of the tailgate with
his front legs then shimmy up and over. He never missed.

The wild roosters have been tough to get near this last month. I'll have to swing in and see what it's all about after the season.
7 month old pup. I'm thinking she would really enjoy a day or two over there. With the membership that first trip is a little costly.

If Hillary follows Obama and they put two more supreme court justices in. All Gun owners had better consider being a member of the nra. Sunday morning 2°. Drove up to where we were going to hunt. The birds were flying to the next field before I got the pickup shut off. Headed into that field. The pup had seen them land. Off she goes. 100 yds from the birds they are flying out of sight. We are going for sneaky next weekend.

We have a pair of redtailed that nest by our house. I haven't seen them bother the wild quail that we feed. Mainly feed on mice and other four legged critters. Last week I had a goshawk follow the pup. Perching above her. It chased every quail she got up. It dove down after one that I shot. Almost c...
