Do you guys hunt leased land, preserves or public? Does the state try to do a good job maintaining quail habitat?

Re: Grouse and Woodcock in Missouri

Just out of curiousity, but where do you find woodcock in NW Mo? I didn't know they were that far west. I've never hunted them. Not even sure I've ever seen one. I didn't think there was enough timber to hunt them in NW MO.

If your waiting until after Thanksgiving to hunt you shouldn't have to pay to hunt. Just go knock on some doors and hit some WIHA. Not a good year to come to KS but it beats staying at home!

It's opening weekend. Isn't scheduling a bird dog trial on this weekend kind be sort of like having the Superbowl on a weds afternoon?

Actually if it's raining to much and I'm not duck hunting I may come up and watch a little bit. Where will this be held at?

Went out yesterday for 1st time. Was only on the ground for a couple of hours. Saw one covey of quail but did get into some pheasants, which I haven't seen on this property in several years. Alot of the area has been cut for hay. Also leaving for Kansas on Friday. Hopefully it will be better. Don't...

When I was a kid I had a beagle. Her and I hunted anything with fur on it! From rabbits to coyotes. Nice bawl mouth on her too. I dug out many a furred critter from holes with a shovel after she found them. But her main quarry was rabbits. If I had her on a coon track and she ran across a rabbit sce...

Drahthaar comes to mind when you throw fur into the mix. Mountain Cur would come to mind except for the waterfowling part. Hard to beat a good Lab either. I had a Chessie that would squirrel hunt though. Best pheasant dog I've seen as well.

Oh its not all doom and gloom. Just stay out of Topeka city limits and Shawnee county if you can. Manhattan is about an hour from downtown Topeka. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT move into the city limits. Like mentioned above plenty of smaller communities around that are much better to live in. And if you have a family they are better yet. The PD in Topeka is, well, enough said on that subject. Topeka is not a huge city (maybe 150K) by any mea...

No effect on them at all. Have had neutered and spayed dogs both. All were great in the field. I personally think it's a great idea to spay or neuter. Especially spaying a bitch. Never have to worry about a heat cycle and not being able to hunt her. I don't agree with the cities law because I think ...

One of the dangers of living in wolf country I suppose. I occasionally will have a coyote that starts getting a little to comfortable being close to the house so I end his days with a well placed shot from my M4 before he ends the days of my wifes bichon. And I agree. There are places where co-exist...

She needs to be force fetched. I am a firm believer that every retriever should be force fetched. It teaches so much more than just a good delivery to hand. You will find that she will be much more confident after being force fetched.
