I have duck hunted, all upland bird species, and dove.
I am really enjoying the fact that people are using them as a versatile breed.

Re: Brittanys and Duck Hunting
Very Cool Britspan. These are truely unique dogs. I have even used the one pictured above for hearding sheep. She is just one of those dogs that knows what I want her to do. I sure wished I had another like her, but she has only had one pup that came close.

Re: Force Fetch - Mouthing Question
[quote="gonehuntin'"]Much better, now his attitude is correct for ff. FF is NOT fun, and some dog's do shut down during it. That's all part of the game. FF is about FORCE. If the I don't like it when people calling tapping a dog under the chin "smacking the dog". Your not. It's just a tap to keep hi...

Brittanys and Duck Hunting
I was just wondering how many of you duck hunt with your pointing dogs. I live in Arkansas, and the lab I bought last year didn't work out. The one I have this year will be good. Hence, last year I used my Brittany's for duck hunting. They did really well even when it was 9 F degees out.

Re: Force Fetch - Mouthing Question
I see some major issues with your video. Smacking a dog during FF is not good. I am not oppossed to smacking one, but this isn't the place. You have too much going on. You need to secure the dogs neck and the rear ( i do so with a D-ring collar around neck and flank), and adjustable chains. The next...

Re: Skunk odor help :(
I use Orange Degreaser Soap (the stuff you wash with after working on cars). A tub of that works great. Skunk spray is oil, and it pulls the oil off.
Re: Pigeons
Them old bridge pigeons home great once they begin to nest. Let the males go first, and they will come back to females.

I wouldn't spend the money. Get your Johnny House built. That little pen wouldn't hold more than 10 birds comforably in this heat.

Re: Symptoms of being too hard on a dog?
I believe you are really over-analyzing your dog. I am gald you notice the small things, but if you aren't in a training regime these things are not an issue. That dog doesn't fear pressure from you, if that is all the actions it shows. As for the obsessive behavior, they are bird dogs. They should ...

My PM Message shows 2 in the outbox, also my messages aren't posting. I just wanted to make sure there aren't any issues with my account. I realize they need to be approved.

Re: Force fetching
It all depends on the dog. I have FF retrievers at 6-mo old. I have FF pointers at 8-mo old. It is about the technique and ensuring it is done before introduction to birds. It usually takes me 3-weeks, with 3-5 sessions per day. Like others have stated, please get with someone that has a lot of expe...
