Sounds like this might be the first time you have hunted with another dog and what you witnessed is not unusual. It doesn't mean your pup will not hunt with another dog but rather you saw a new experience for your dog. You will never have the first time again and everything else will change also wi...

ecollars should only be used when you are trained to use one. Don't use one unless you are willing to try it out on your own neck at the level you intend to use on your dog.

If you are patient you could try to condition the dog to a trimming/grinding with a hand-held dermel. There are two heads that are useful with this tool/ One is a sanding drum that takes replaceable sandpaper sleeves. The other is a cone shaped stone. The drum sander is good for bigger moves, the c...

If you have room for another dog, take her. The worst thing that can happen is you wind up with a good housedog that keeps the home safe while you're out hunting with your #1dog. Something I have learned over the years is the really talented, easy dogs don't teach you much as a trainer; they might ...

Bloodlines verses Environment?
On a related topic to sex, what % of the dogs hunting ability is related to genetics versus environment.
I happen to believe you can have the best bloodlines in the country and supress their ability in 15 minutes with a bad environment.

I don't think gender makes a differences with hunting. Make a choice. Leg lifting or blood dripping. Once you establish the family tree, its all about environment.

I have no doubt the system works, as it is used by many trainers on a variety of animals. The ecollar also works and in the right hands it is a safe, humane training tool. If one is good, the other doesn't have to be bad.

Turn your dog loose and have fun. Let his instincts do the rest. If anything, work with your dog to stay to the front. The bigger he runs the more the judges like him. DO NOT HACK HIM! Remember keep verbal commands to a minimum. "silence is golden, duct tape is silver"
