Mile Post 9 Trial Grounds - Idaho
I heard that the field trial grounds known as Mile Post 9 burned last night and this morning. That's bad news! The fire is still burning. There's a lot of country there and not much access to stop it.

Re: Ecollar Obedience and Force Fetch
I noticed that my Gordon will start balking and give me a slower response when I use the e-collar on continuous (Set at the lowest level I can detect a response). I don't think after seeing pics of setters on point on this forum that the British setters habit of "setting" would find much favour in America. It's reason enough to consider not breeding the dog that "sets". To use your term. I often wonder if the crouched pointing attitudes of many of the pointe...

As a Gordon (field lines) owner since 1988 and a breeder (field lines) since 2003 I've had several adults (16+) dogs and I've noticed that there's a difference in the way my dogs move when compared to continental breeds. I do enter my dogs in hunt tests and AKC trials so I am able to compare as most...

Re: Gambels/Valley Vs Bobwhites for Training
Valley Quail like to run MUCH more than Bobwhites. But if you use launchers that wouldn't be an issue. I would recommend using a launcher anyway to get a good flush from the birds, as pen raised bobwhites allow dogs to get to darn close for my likes. Poor flying pen raised birds have caused far more...

Define "original"? The AKC standard changed in the 60's, I believe. And continues to be changed. The size standard for the dogs was made larger. Generally the dogs now, dual and show lines, are larger than they use to be before the AKC standard changed. What size are you looking for? The majority of...

You might try feeding another brand of dog food. Something with different ingredients then you're feeding now. Sometimes I've noticed a change in those types of conditions when I change foods.

You're right (What should I feed my Puppies?) is a can of worms.
Some people feed puppy food... others do not. I've had bad experiences when puppies grow too fast. Others may not have experienced those same things. If you do feed a puppy food, feed a large breed puppy food.

There's more to dog food then measuring your dogs performance for 30 minutes to an hour. Therefore, a dog having success in field trials isn't the bottom line indicator for me. A good hunting dog will give it's all, and more, to find birds. There's recovery time, stamina to go again the next day. Th...

What do you consider training? If it's an hour run in the field then wait, but if it's just yard work then there's no need to wait until for 7 weeks, After a couple weeks she'll be spending less time with the puppies and some yard work would be fun for her. And as for waiting for 7 weeks to let the ...

My experience is that young pigeons that haven't been used much or are new to the game, (have not been used in Traps before) don't seem to fly very well and will sometimes land just feet away from the launch site. Now I use the older more experienced birds and leave the younger birds for "distractio...

I have them removed. Never heard an argument to the contrary.... I'll do some research...
I suppose some animal rights groups might consider it unnecessary mutilation... like clipping ears on some breeds or cutting the tails when the pups are young.

I've had similiar experiences with my dogs. In addition to removing the hot wire, I believe that if you don't shoot a pigeon for them every now and then, they get bored with them. Try shooting a some pigeons for them to reignite the fire. It's a fairly quick thing to do before you try something else.
