if someone comes in and knows what they want, like a vaccination or a mismating shot, or a toe nail trim, etc, then i dont charge an office call. if they have a sick dog that i have to spend some time examining and diagnosing, or just want to bring the animal in and pick my brain about a certain pro...

could be a clogged tear duct like you said, or could be a corneal ulcer caused by a scratch, foreign body, or even an entropion (the eyelid rolls id and iritates the cornea). i would have your vet stain the eye with flourescein to make sure the cornea isnt damaged, then treat appropriately. your vet...

as long as you start pup on the preventitive prior to 5 months, you dont need to test before starting it. the other thing i wanted to say was i have seen alot of dogs come down with parvo that had been vaccinated with "farm and home" vaccines. i am not saying all of them will, but i have seen it hap...

heres what i recommend : puppy shots at around 6, 9, 12 weeks of age- this can be tweaked a little, its not set in stone by any means, but i like to get 3 rounds in them and i am of the opinion that a pups immune system isnt quite mature enough to respond properly to the vaccine at less than 6 week...

I'm a vet and i agree with markerdown and terry. wait until the dogs musculoskeletal system is fully developed and the growth plates are fully closed. i would wait until 2 years if you are going to neuter him at all. i have a 3 yr old intact Britt who has zero marking problems. Also neutered out gol...

if the dog is still in estrus (receptive to the male) she can be given an injection of ECP, which will extend her estrus and prevent implantation, effectively aborting the mismating. but to answer the question, I dont think she should have brought the dog, but she should have kept a better eye on th...

talk to your vet, have them do a vaginal swab. they should be able to tell you how close she is getting, and tell you either do it ASAP or wait a day or two. it may take multiple swabs, but they usually arent expensive. is it common for breeders to allow you just one shot at a mating?? i would think...

Buckeye, if you are not interested in breeding the mare, there are ways to keep her from coming in to heat during the trial season. ask your vet, he/she should be able to help you. one method is to insert a marble into the utereus- it fools the mare into thinking she is pregnant = no heat cycles. al...

if you are seeing the brown gunky stuff on the outside of the ear, then it is most likely on the inside of the ear as well.
