She's going in on the 16th to get a check up for her incontinence due to spaying...forget the technical term for it...and she's going to get the lepto vaccine at that point. Our vet was pushing it pretty hard which either means they want to sell more vac's or it can be an issue around here. And she ...

I am definitly looking to improve the weimaraner breed. I would like to have dogs that are dual quality dogs...quality both afield and in the ring. Weims have gotten away from their field roots and I want to embrace that again while meeting the conformation standard. I believe I would want my dogs t...

Making the Decision
How do you make the decision to become a breeder, I.e. are there benchmarks of when you are ready to take on the challenge of bettering your breed? I would like to some day breed quality weimaraners for field and show (a true dual dog not a compromise between the 2). But I know right now I lack the ...

I got my Weim when she was 3 or 4 months old, she's 3 yrs old now. We just finished our first season on birds. She was my first bird dog and I had screwed her up really bad in the first year or so... So we took along break and I began to learn a lot more about training. When we started again last su...

Its the Inlaws...'nuff said!! I typically don't expect my dogs to do anything different when family or friends come over. If I know that someone is truely bothered by large dogs (my motherinlaw :( ) I will do my best to keep the piece without punishing my dog for doing what is normal. *She has a lg ...

Ever tried "Google Earth"? It is amazing what you can see on the aerial views just by looking at the areas you intend to hunt and most of those aerials are reasonably up to date. I think I read somewhere in their literature, that the aerials are refreshed every 3 years, or something to that effect?...

I had Smokey vaccinated at a clinic not our normal vet (clinic much closer and cheaper). I just took her in to get a check up and drop off the vaccination records. The doctor called and said that Smokey hadn't gotten the leptospira???? vaccine (my wife took the call and this was the closest thing I ...

My weim had skin trouble, cleared that up with some healthy alternative foods (venison and rice, etc.) Then made the switch to Pro Plan sensitive stomach since it has higher calorie per cup and higher fat and protein levels than my previous foods. Long story short she's doing well on it. Haven't had...

Smokey has lost her point, taking out birds!
Well I filled the field out at a trial over the weekend so it would count for the guys who needed points. This was the first time she had been in a field with birds by herself for a while. She had recently ran with 2-4 other dogs on phez and quail. Smokey is a fairly close working dog, she did not g...

Hunters Safety-What age to start
The other thread about hunters safety got me thinking. I need to have my daughter go thru a hunters safety course and I'll take it with her (what a dad). But at what age do you think a child should take the course? My daughter is seven, but i want to get her started off on the right foot. What do yo...

It seemed to cut down on a lot of problems. You may still get some soft stools but not near like swi...

Only negative thing I've heard about the natural bones is they may wear the teeth down prematurly. I try to make sure if she gets them down to the point where they are getting to small I pitch them.
