Re: What collars to get with the Alpha 100
Standard gives you more battery life and distance. Tests have indicated that the difference in the mini and standard is insignificant. I have the mini and really like it on my 33 lb. Brittany. Battery life is fantastic and I've never had an issue with the distance. Wasn't trying to influence his pu...

I imagine the never let them on the furniture and train them right was a jab. Not offended though. Gsp's like soft spots, and train them right is a real gray area. I know there are some darn good gsp's that are allowed on the couch.

Re: Getting a new pup
We're talking about a fair amount of run in the dogs being mentioned. I personally think it's better to get a 300 yard dog than getting a 800 yard dog and reel them back in to 300. You and the dog will be much happier.

Re: What energy boost/snack do you use?
In my opinion conditioning and genetics are the key. I don't buy into miracle products. Number of hours a dog can hunt depends partly on average speed of the dog. A dog that averages 7 to 9 mph is in the 25 mile range in 3 hours.a slower dog may hit 25 miles in 6 hours. I try to limit my dogs to 25 ...

Sometimes you have to just jump on the right situation. Don't think I would over think this one. This guy is trying to do what is best for the dog and is selling it at a big loss. A breeder has to pay the bills and can't sell dogs at a loss. Personally I don't think you are anywhere near "in the bal...

Re: English Setter Steadying
Good advise by Shags to contact the trainer first. How soft is your dog? Have you tried hooking a check cord on the dog while it is on point? Hook it up, give it 5 or 10' of slack and get ready for a jolt when it hits the end. The more slack you give it, the more the jolt. Some dogs need to be flip...

I had a shorthair that would hit the brakes if a fence was hot. She always knew. She was also careful around barbed wire. None of my other shorthairs have ever respected fences much.

There was a deal made to breed in English setter. It was all done with everyone knowing. They had to wait for 4 generations before they could register them in fdsb. There was a reciprocal agreement with akc for a short period if time. The breed club put a stop to it when the new red setters started ...
