I guess I get more concerned about leg length and weight than color. My neighbors fox red shows red when the sun is at the right angle and hunts really well. Actually meets AKC specs for Labs. The trend seems to be "bigger is better" around here. 100lbs is not uncommon.

I watched my ESS take a rooster out of the air. I figured she had seen me shoot enough, figured that I miss (once in a while), and went for it. It was fun to watch and she did bring the bird to me to carry back to the truck.

House gets awful quiet without dog feet hitting the floor. Nice to have someone happy to see you come home. Two days after Gunther died, wife said we needed a pup. Sky did well this year, and next year will be a joy.(Wife picks the name, I pick and hunt the dog)

Dogs are pretty much what you train them to be. If you have a calm quiet household and have a gentle firm manner, your dog will probably turn out to be quiet and gentle. Most of the hunting dogs like people, want to be with people, and really want to please you. Puppies are different.
