I take it you have had all those dogs OFA'd in 35 yrs. I did a check on ofa's website. Not 1 miller dog has a OFA number and only 15 elhew. Seems odd with 2 of the 1 time top pointer breeders. :?

The other honest question is why would those pups demand so much more than a quality GSP litter? Because folks will pay the price. The market is flooded with 90% outcross x outcross breedings. Annie is looking good. We have ^Tug pointing ,retrieving , and he's a muskrat in the water. Tug goes swimming just because the water is there.

Might be because of the late spring. I do know the St Croix NAVMDA chapter has a large number of entries, The NAVHDA test in Virginia in Aug is full. Our group just bought 500 quail same price as last year.

IMO they are only affective as the trainer. We like teaching stop to flush first. This way if the dog doesn't have natural backing instinct the bird is put in the air and hopefully the dog will start to relate a bird to the silhouette. Lots of ways to skin this cat...

We allow the pups to play with the older dogs. Your pups been playing with older dog since 4 weeks. We discourage growling, snarling and yapping. Nate, here's a picture of tug on his first point today.

Time to teach stop to flush using a check cord. Most everything we do is taught first then over laid with the e-collar. By teaching the STF the dog relates that a bird in the air they must stand. I find it easier to teach STF before steading the dog. the steadiness seems to fall in place.

+1 about Brents dogs. We have trained with a Frenchie (Cooper)from NA through his VC and is a outstanding Britt. There are a couple of Frenchie VC's in the Penn. Area.

Howie kicks himself all the time for selling his Parker reproduction 28 ga. He bought one at whole sale when the reproduction first came out , $1,600.00. Even at todays price he'd like another.

But when you say you have bred for fifty years to get the dogs you like you are biased. Cj Never said Howie has bred dogs for fifty yrs. I said he has owned and trained gsps for fifty years. Because I stated this doesn't make me bias. I stated what blood he had in the past and what he enjoys today....

Howie owning and training GSP's for almost 50 years and having early dogs out of Tell, Boss Ranger , Moesguaards Dee Jackson , Flying Dutchman, Rusty etc. The NAVHDA bred dogs for Howie fit what he likes today ....

Folks in differant areas have differant needs. Myself, I need the retrieve. Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. The county i live in has over a 1,000 lakes , tons of creeks and swamps. i can't tell how many time I've drop a grouse or woodcock across a creek , river , or in the lake.

IMO to many have forgotten conventional methods of yester year and relie on e-collar methods of today. i use the e methods as much as anybody but have not forgot the root methods.

There are retrievers who won't retrieve - does that mean it was bred out of them? to say retrieves been bred out is an exaggeration Sure are pointers setters of various breds that retrieve well . there are also many who could care less about retrieving. The topic is retrieve to hand . the yearlier you start a dog on retrieve to hand and quick return the less you have to cleanup....
