Re: How Much Would you Pay for a Pup?
The large majority of FT dogs, especially AKC gundogs are 150 yardish dogs. Not exactly horizon busters... I see very very few true 500+ yard dogs that dont just run off. Oh I paid $300 for my GSP, who is one of the best dogs I have ever been around. And $400 for my pointer that has 2 RU CH wild bir...

If you have access to wild birds and a young pup and you choose to use pigeons I will reach through the computer and smack you!!! :D It always amazes me that we stress wild birds, wild birds, wild birds. I also have no problem making sure my hounds stay healthy, but its a crutch for a dog to be able to actually hunt. I would much rather hunt with a dog that does not need all the TLC just to go hunting! Just me though.

Is your dog "accident prone"? Not sure if this was addressed to me or not but when a hound see's as much run time as mine, things are bound to go wrong once in awhile. I've heard it said, that the biggest and most important difference between a trial dog and a hunting dog is the owner. The owner (trialer or hunter) guides the pup through different processes depending on the goal. The biggest difference between a trial dog and a hunting dog is which day I have the...

At 8 weeks old its a complete crap shoot, regardless of what anyone says! CJ you just need to get out to actual trials so that people feel you are educated when you talk about trialing. The VAST majority of FT dogs, especially AKC gundogs are literally 100-150 yard dogs.
