Re: Dog Sneezing.... anyone have experience with this??
I am no vet but the symptom being alot more to one nostril vs. both, points more to a foreign object in one nostril vs an allergy which I would expect to affect both nostrils equally.

Re: Dog Sneezing.... anyone have experience with this??
Over the years I have had two different GWPs run a stick up their nose which broke off inside the nose. Both dogs would go into periodic violent sneezing fits but then appear normal for awhile in between sneezing fits. Knocked em both out and removed the stick. One was an adult dog and he was immedi...

Re: What's the most unusual breed bird dog you ever saw?
Airdale, excellent retriever and pointed too, would retrieve from water or land! I hunted with an Airedale alot when I was a kid. She hunted and retrieved Bobwhites and Doves when we we pursuing them, treed squirrels and Raccoons when that was our agenda. I hunted pheasants and bobwhites with a fem...

Re: Buying Pigeons - Questions
I have found pigeons on Craigslist numerous times. I also found some sources by posting on Craigslist in the Farm section looking to buy them. If you do post looking to buy I suggest not placing your contact info in the post, nor would I mention intentions to use them for dog training, as the PETA t...

Re: Hot weather and exercise
We do water work using a Lucky Launcher 2 on a shoulder stock and medium loads. With a worn out O ring and hard sided dummy it will launch 100 yards. So the dog gets 200 hundred yards swimming for each retrieve. Usually get a short morning run in while the dew is still on if the temps are in the 70s...

Re: Where does your dog ride?
Mine rides in a dog carrier underneath the camper shell of my PU. The Camper shell has full length contractor doors down each side with sliding glass windows and screens in the center of each door. A center sliding glass window in the front. I close them in cold temps and open them in the heat. I al...

Re: WPG First Bird Exposure
I use and recommend the Perfect Start and Perfect Finish DVDs. I do not like using check cords or whoa commands in a young dogs first encounters with birds. I never whoa a dog into a point, especially a young dog. Whoa comes after the pup's first hunting season when we are training steady to WSF. I ...

Mike I bought the full size collar first and then the mini 15 collar. The mini is all I use. It's size allowed me to put it on my pup at an early age and let him roam/explore in game country with little to no interference from me. Which was instrumental in developing his independent search.

Re: Intro to birds/pointing
Buy the Perfect Start/Perfect Finish DVDs and a couple of high quality remote control launchers. Use them and strong flying pigeons as instructed in the DVDs. You will be glad you invested the money while hunting over your staunch stylish dog for the next 13-14 years.

Mike, I posted about my use of an Alpha for hunting and a 550 for training. I travel alot and like GH posts, I like to have some redundancy in the truck so I always take both with me. I already owned the 550 and I like packing only one transmitter on me and one collar on the dog, so I went the route...

Re: cost of a pup
Thank you Ray, Appreciate it. No doubt there are nice dogs in just about all breeds. Just have to find the right fit. This pup just turned 2. We trained hard last summer and he passed his UT Prize 1 at 18 months. We are working on rudimentary blind retrieve handling skills now and I will also do mor...

Mike, I use a TT/Garmin 550 pro for training. I like the instant ease of varying stimulation levels while training. I use a Garmin Alpha while hunting. I like silence while hunting. Train my dogs to recall to the tone button and use it sparingly. The GPS capabilities allowed me to let my pup's searc...

Re: Keeping a short haired dog warm waterfowling
I use an Avery neoprene vest on the dog. I let them move around and roll in the grass if present to get excess water off after a retrieve if nothing is working the spread at that moment, and I use Dog Blinds to get the dog out of the wind and trap some heat. I have two of them. One is a ground blind...

Re: cost of a pup
So after a poor first experience posting I have resorted to Lurking since. Going to wander back in the waters again. Might regret it, but no biggie if I do. My chosen breed is NAVHDA registered GWPs. My dogs are huge in my life and the initial cost of acquisition is nearly meaningless in the scheme ...

we don't often delete people posts unless they are something that shouldn't be read on a forum. Otherwise they are left so others can see and learn. I am sorry to think there is nothing on a forum that is probably the most successful learning forum of this type ever. Comeback if you change your min...

http://www.perfectionkennel.com/order-dvds.html I was down at Jon's place last week and watched him working a young setter using the methods taught in this DVD. I have hunted with GWPs for over 30 years - Doves, Upland Birds, Waterfowl, Blood Tracking and little fur along the way. If I lived in TX I would be hunting behind a GSP from a line developed to handle heat alot better than a GWP with a proper coat. If I was a pure Upland Bird hunter in TX I would h...

Re: GWP question.
I have been hunting with GWPs for over 30 years now. If I lived in TX I would have a GSP due to the heat and my using the dogs for Doves, Waterfowl, Upland and Blood tracking. If I were in TX and was a pure upland bird hunter I would have an EP. Both GSPs and EPs are going to handle heat alot better...
