I have used the wing a lot on my pups just don't do it to much. if you do it a few more times I see no harm. if the dog sit easy lift his back end up and gently push the dog toward the wing

dog must have ear prob. shooting one day should not cause this. the mistake I think you made was you and some friends shooting that much around a five month old pup. this is how gun shyness is created. even if the dog has been shoot around. good luck I hope the dog gets its hearing back

you could try and use some quail sent. I would rub quail scent on the launcher then put the rag in the launcher put some on the pigeons and set it out and shoot the bird. if this wont work you will have to find some quail

sounds like you got a nice pup. the bonding thing is first as said already. and I would say this dog may back natural. when the pup is ready take her for walks off leash where you can see her when the dog gets out a bit call and change your direction this will teach the dog to hunt with you. sounds ...

when the dog runs to the end of the leash give a couple jerks on the leash.. not hard but quick jerks and change direction when the dog runs to the end jerk and change direction soon the dog will start looking for the change if the dog starts to ignore you jerk and change dir this has worked good fo...

try and not let the dog catch the bird.. soon you will be planting birds for the dog to point and to use his nose.. again don't let the dog catch the birds some of the quail may not fly to good

how old is your dog .. you want the dog to point birds so you can flush and killl to much of this and the dog will start going after the bird to retrieve and wont point the bird at all.. work him on birds to point and put away the wings

lion county has a harness to strap around bird that has spikes on it. if dog put to much pres.. on bird he fells the spikes.. don't really know how good this works but worth a try

you can play retrieve with a dog that young. but the dogs to young to force anything. keep it fun formal training will come later. you are on the right track your a teacher don't expect first grader to do six grade work

I had a young setter that a trainer said he could not train.. and she was a handful and it took awhile. but she did come around. she wasn't the best dog I every had but she loved me.. and I did her..i still can remem...

I love mine. im a grouse hunter and make a trip to Michigan every year. i used to have beeper collars. i have found the birds hold better without all that noise now i use the locate button on the beeper as my call back for the dog you can mark the truck as a waypoint and not have to worry about gett...

if you cant train the dog your self.. it sounds like you might not be able to.. I would seek pro help it is going to coast you less in the long run and get the dog trained right.. you cant put up bad manners that can hurt someone.you owe it to your dog

somehow my dogs know the diff. when just out running they do seem to run a lot bigger but when the gun comes out they settle down and go to work .it has never been a problem for me

I think your dog is just trying to fig.things out for himself. in other words what will work for him.dont let him keep doing this. bad habits are hard to break.this is where your yard work pays off. he knows what whoa means you have to enforce it you might have to go back to planted birds then move on

most dogs will mouth the bird some more than others..as long as he will bring the bird back and not tear the meat. up I would be happy with this.. the dog will get better at retrieving the more he dose it if you are not sat..with this then I would teach the force fetch
