Every breed has a breed standard, it's up to each breeder to abide by it... Or disregard it completely. But if someone wants a dog that is big like a pointer and runs like a pointer, get a pointer. Why ruin another breed's standard and integrity to make it into everything it in not meant to be? Ever...

Genetically, the answer is one, isn't it? A non carrier out of a carrier is clear so long as you breed it to a non carrier if producing carriers is what you're avoiding.brad27 wrote: how many generations away from a small e carrier makes it ok to breed to that dog? 3, 9?

Health issues in breeding stock
Breeders are one of the core pieces of our sport. If it wasn't for the breeder, we might not have the dogs we share our lives with. With being a breeder comes the responsibility of producing dogs who not only exhibit the traits we desire but have the health to ensure longevity. As a breeder, what he...

Conformation is about the "look" of a dog. Looks is the only thing that separates breeds in many cases. if you want to do away with conformation, you are basically arguing to do away with breeds. How does that explain that for over 100 years, without a written breed standard, AF Pointers and AF Eng...

It is the parent breed club that sets the standards and can change them. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. Trek- small white patches 1-2 inches in diameter are common, even in the show world. I believe breeders have an obligation to make good moral choices about their breedings.
