Here example of an Elhew line breeding that is very tight. This is a pup's pedigree that I have on the way: http://www.perfectpedigrees.com/4genview.php?id=415 That's about as tight as I have seen. Interesting. My new Lab pup has some line breeding to Lean Mac. My dog Cooper is line bred Elhew Snak...

Wow Brandon. I am glad the dog will be ok. Zim and I passed on a couple of great spots where we saw Chukars for this very reason. We were afraid one of the dogs would chase them off a 200 foot cliff. This is definately one of the dangers of Chukar hunting. I have heard of more than one dog that didn...

Utah Chukar Hunt. Opening weekend pics.
Started out by getting up at 2:30 am on Saturday morning. Addict was at my house to pick me up by 3:30 and then we were off to pick up Invader Zim. We hit the road and we were at our chosen Chukar spot by 6:30. As it got lighter, the coyotes were howling all around us. It was great to be in the West...

Chukar scouting trip. (pics)
There was a break in the storm today, so I took my best helper out on a scouting trip. We were in search of the elusive pen raised Chukar. The Division of Wildlife releases birds in different areas right before the opener. This gives a chance for those new to the sport to get a taste of chukar hunti...

Grousin' again.
Headed out with Addict again today to make up for getting skunked on the opener. We had a great day trip. Three dogs along. Cowboy, Cooper, and Jinx. We parked the truck and headed through some very thick cover. We hiked over several ridges and what was probably a couple of miles. We were in some gr...

Quick grouse hunt.
Critter Control and I headed up for a quick hunt this afternoon. We tried a couple spots that were unproductive. Then I dropped Caleb and Cowboy off at the top of a ridge and drove down to the bottom to pick them up. They flushed two and Caleb was able to shoot one. A nice mature male Blue. http://i...

I knew that Chris and Caleb had been planning this trip for a long time. It had been in the works for almost a year. We all know about Caleb's dog situation. The new little pup is still to small for a trek like this one. I felt like they shouldn't go on a spectacular hunt like that without a dog. So...

Grouse Hunting with Addict. The "opener"
They evaded us today. We put a ton of miles on the Jeep, the dogs, and our hiking boots. We saw Moose, Elk, and Deer. I got some advice on a "hot" spot from a friend who had been bow hunting and saw a "ton" of grouse. When we got there at first light, there were grouse there. Sage grouse. I didn't k...

New huntin' buddy.
He won't retrieve yet, and I didn't have to wait till he was 8 weeks old to bring him home. He didn't seem to like the ole' wing on a string trick. He has excellent confirmation and some stellar breeding. I hope to get him on birds early. Probably won't road him for a while and I'll wait on introduc...

Critter Control's pup fund.
Just an update on our quest to get Critter Control a new pup. We raised just enough to get the pup purchased. Huge thanks to everyone who donated to the cause.
Caleb is headed out on a road trip to Oregon this weekend to get the pup. We are all looking forward to seeing the new dog.

Yeah, that did make a smaller picture for me.

but, it won't let me link it anywhere so when someone clicks on it, they can view the larger picture. Does that make sense??

Aryes, Sometimes I do only send one dog and make the other watch. I haven't found that it has caused any problems. What I have found is that the competition between the two dogs running for retrieves has created great retrieving desire. I have yet to have either dog let me down retrieving a bird to ...

Chukar conditioning right in my own backyard. (videos)
I recently moved to a new place. I haven't been able to go explore and get permission to run any fields nearby. So I have been working the dogs out each night by playing a little fetch. My backyard drops off pretty steep and I am able to throw the bumper a good 50-60 yards because of it being downhi...

Well I had a good chat with Caleb today and he is one step ahead of me. He has been in talks with Springset Kennels and has reserved a little white female colored Gordon. I think this is great. He likes to be different and this dog, like Gur will be unique and should be a great dog. It will be ready...

Let's do something nice for Critter Control
Sorry I wanted to post this sooner, but was not able to get internet access at my new house untill today. Most of you know that Gur was killed recently. Invader Zim's posts and his adventures with Gur have always been great. He took that dog everywhere with him. They were great friends. It wouldn't ...

I am extremely happy with the Black Gold food I have been feeding. This food does interest me though. I may try out a bag or two. Nice to have a relative of Lou's on the forum. He is a great guy. I wish I could have sent my dogs out on his camp. Better yet, I wish I could have sent myself to the camp.

It's getting hot. Water pics.
Critter Control and I went out this afternoon for some training. It was fairly hot (85 degrees). We met up at on of our favorite local spots. By the time I got there, CC already had planted several carded pigeons. There was no wind at all. Scenting conditions were terrible. The dogs were hot and not...

I have recently switched to Black Gold, in the red bag. Previously I was feeding the black bag. Both of my dogs have bulked up. Since the switched. I was asked what I was feeding a couple of different times at the trial last weekend. I am interested in the Arkat food and I will try it if I see it at...
