Re: My dog result of inbreeding
Wehle and Miller clearly understood, that is why they produced many litters, Maybe some of the puppies exceeded their expectations, Probably not and some were were eliminated. I never knew Miller, But, I had many conversations with Wehle. He was the breeder of my first and last pointer. One of the ...

I believe those who would profess that they can master genetics are plagued with a terrible social liability known in the science of psychological circles as an inferiority complex, and known to the rest of us just trying to enjoy the day, an activity, maybe a life ... as know-it-alls. I have studi...

Genetics is like the universe, always changing. Or at least our knowledge of it is. How many years has it been since the theories on the X factor and mitochondrial DNA came to knowledge. We are learning more about genetics every year. What you learned 20 years, 10 years, 5 years ago, has likely in s...

i don't give a hoot about political correctness. It's all about responsible selectivity. Doesn't matter if you're outcrossing or tight inbreeding, a responsible breeder will have excellent selective skills. Non-vital puppies usually show themselves early and must be culled. It's painful, but part of...

My Lucy retrieved a rabbit carcass the other day while out running in grouse country. It smelled like maggots, but was too old to carry them. Some good comments already. Here's a scenario, My 16 month old pup started holding point and allowing me to get in front of him to flush at 13 weeks old. His littermate sister would scent the bird, run in and flush, and chase a long ways at the same age. My male pup became very calm and collected on...

in my experience, when one of these questionable, not-black-and-white things happen, leaving the dog down usually works out, as it will either redeem itself or hang itself as the brace goes on. I'd rather reward a great perfomance with a possible "hmmm" in it, than a mediocre one with perfect adhes...

The phrase "de-bolting" is interesting, and to me means you have a reason to believe your dog is going to bolt and be destroyed in his bolting. For that concern I can see it being very useful.
