Well this is where we will have to agree to disagree I do my dogs at 4-6 months always have and always will..we handle the situation a bit different then adult dogs but I do not want them sticking their nose in to a rattler being curious and getting bit in the face or nose or neck as we have mohave'...

I have never seen a dog that didn't handle Snake Avoidance training done right...They related to the snake which has to be done as natual as possible with a Live Milked and defanged rattlesnake We do this all the time and have for years with many different breeds of dogs not just hunting and birddog...

I still have to say ...that AVOIDANCE is the best thing and that the vaccine is a good back up for the accidental run over.... It states all over that the vaccine only slows the process and isn't a gaurantee.... So anyone in or going to area where there are snakes should have the dogs Snake AVOIDANC...

Treats and rewards are more for the people then the dogs. Your great dogs that perform with consistancy making champions and HOF category are trained with effective training... training has come along ways with the improvements of the collars making training alot easier with desired results leading ...

i don't find quite a few of my dog responding to treats Bullet for instance his reward is more birds...so why carry around a bag of treats when he won't eat them....Treats are fine for working with dogs that are soft to bring them to a level where you can work with them in a real manner....as i stat...

IF you have a dog that responds well without treats why start...... I only use treats in certain instances and generally that will be on soft timid dogs and i will quit using treats as the confidence level rises dogs that have alot of drive most won't eat they are to intense about what they get to do

I have had 2 occasions were i resorted to treats for retrieves..with luck....I found Peanut butter worked for my first dog i has some issues with and then Some soft jerky treats worked with a FF gone wrong on another...Started with treast then slowly weaned the treats out with a good dog petting rew...

That is about all you can do ..i have seen timid dogs be more inclined to sit when ever they feel pressure which haven't been taught to sit... Biggest thing is DON'T make an issue out of it neither good or bad...just calmly go and set the dog up in a whoa position give one gentle stroke down the sid...

Mans Best Friend Software I use it ...easy to use and the COI goes back 10 generations if you have all the info plugged in

you can get pretty detailed with it also...they let you down load a full version to try for 14 days it took me about 30 minutes to play around with it and purchase it.....
