A good day at the preserve
Seems like some things are finally coming together with Smokey and I. Nothing spectacular but got a couple good pics of my girl in action. http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd143/Huntinweim/th_DSC02234.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd143/Huntinweim/th_DSC02097.jpg http://i226.photobucket.c...

I hunted at a preserve over the weekend with a dog that had never seen a pheasant dead or alive, she was a grouse dog. It took her a few exposures but by the end of the day she was a pheasant dog for sure. Also had a similiar experience with my weim. Would point great on quail, but just now starting...

Ok I spoke praise about the Condor, but after a day at a preserve I had a minor inconvience turn into a mininightmare with this gun. Not sure the cause but here you go... When I first got the gun and I would break it open to pull the shell from the bottom chamber the rim of the cartridge would not c...

nate trulock makes chokes for condor's. Not sure if they are condor specific but takes away some of the guessing game.

RR's were bred to find game, even though they were intended as sight hounds, they have hunt in them. Might make a nice flushing/retrieving dog, most likely not going to be real successful as a pointer (bred to chase). But beauty and usefulness is in the eye of the beholder. ITs going to take time, p...

Backup guns
How many of you guys carry backup guns? Have been reading a few threads where people talk about problems with their guns. Do you keep a backup in the truck? Is it the same gauge as your main gun. I always figured if I usually carried an o/u for upland I would keep a semi or pump (if I every get one)...

I have seen a couple of the guys that have done really well in BDC. Its impressive to watch a dog have 3 finds and 3 bagged birds in under 4 minutes. Remember these dogs are finding birds that fast. The dog I got to see in person had a blow up on television, but when I saw him was amazing. No creep ...
Roy Gonia Special?
I use the Roy Gonia as well. I have taught Smokey to sit on a whistle and come on a whistle, and I use them sparingly. I was hunting on some public ground and started at the back of the field. In the field on the other side of the treeline every few seconds I would hear a whistle blast. The guy move...

Dead vs. Alive, the smell
I have seen a lot writen about a dog pointing dead and this being undesirable, which has brough a couple of questions to mind. First-is there an odor difference between a live bird and a dead bird (I'm not talking rotting corpses, but maybe a bird shot and killed but not recovered earlier in the day...

Ezzy you're dead on. But what if its a lower protein food (I.E. 20%), does the supplement increase the amount any more than 1%? For dogs with skin problems it can be very challenging to find a food with a protein level over 20%, and most I have found are under that. I am looking to do some basic retreivingwork this summer and was looking for recommendations on good videos. I want to do basic handling, some wagonwheels, etc.
I have looked at the Smartwork DVD's. Thought I had saw a thread on it but don't see it now (probably looking right past).
