Re: Is she ready
Thanks for the tips. I am no way trying to hurry this process along. I fill like she will get use to sight pointing and keep doing it. She picks up on things real fast. I thought she might be ready for the next level. Thanks

Re: Speargrass.
I had a lab/setter mix 15 years ago that got this between her toes. Her foot swell about the size of a tennis ball. The vet had to go in and remove them. I thought it was pretty bizarre I never heard of that. I guess when she would be running it was like forcing them in deeper. She turn out ok

Re: Which do you feel works better and why?
I use the whistle. I like it because it can be heard when dog is 50 yards away. I don't know if the clicker can be heard at that distance. I keep dog on CC while I give a command and toot. I also use a hand command at the same time also.I trained my last dog like this and doing the same with my new ...

I started with whoa at 8 weeks. I use the the word STOP. Stop means stop. I built the table so you are at eye level with the dog. Now at 16 weeks she stops at every command. Good luck.http://s1074.photobucket.com/albums/w413/DozerXLT/

Re: Hunting closer?
I taught my vizsla about 10 years ago with the check cord 30ft. always keep in that distance. As she got older I let her go out a little more. I read a long time ago it is easier to keep dog in close and let it go out a little. But its hard if you let it range big then try to keep it in close. There...

I use the paint roller. I have a 13 week old EP and I take a glove and put down the center for weight. I take feathers and wrap the outside of it and use plastic ties to hold them on. Feathers in mouth now=bird in mouth later. I use scent on the glove. I started 10 yards in flat ground short grass s...

You might look into your state parks area. Here in my state you can train your dog on state park grounds in off seasons. Special rules apply. Its great because of new ground for training plus I have 1,000 acres 10 minutes away. Good luck

Running amuck
Just want to hear thoughts on when to shut down of a pup running free. I hear lots of people say its ok to let dog chase things at young age. Isn't this getting it set for long term chasing. I have a small house dog 7 years old I let out and to this day he will chase every rabbit and cat around. I a...

You will like that breed. Had female 10 years ago best family/gundog.When we went hunting all I had to do is let her out of the box she did the rest. A lot of people said she worked too close 50yards tops but while they were plowing through field in a hurry to find birds they walked right over them....

Right now she is 9 weeks old and comes every time. I still use the cord just in case I need it. Good lu...

I have in the past lined my chain link fence with cattle/hog panels. This is heavy duty welded wire Most TSC and farm stores have them. They come in different size hole patterns. They will not break through that. Good luck.

Hello there newbie here. Just started working w/the 7 week old pup. I have in the past work with vizslas. I thought it might be a new challenge. I would accept any tips on this type of breed for making another gun dog. She seems real energetic.
