I have always enjoyed the "eyewipe" experience. You feel on top of the world when your dog pulls it off , especially if your dog has been the third or fourth dog the judges have tried on a bird ! On the other hand you feel a right numptie when someone else's dog pulls it off on you ! I've had both e...

Since I have never been in the States I do not really know whether the standards of dog work in your tests and trials are the approximate equivalent of those in Britain or not. Brad, why do you think a dog needs to get a bird in it's mouth as a reward ? What I took from the video was that the dog knew birds were likely to be found in the magic brushpile from previous experience so the dog went there and "bumped" a bird . I can only agree with Robert (Polmaise), I wouldn't let a dog hunt out 3 to 400 hundred yards away from me in thick cover. I probably wouldn't let it get much more than 60 yards. I don't use GPS or an e-collar…. too complicated for my non-techie brain but I do put my whistle to good use whenever it ...

Re: how is that deadbirds sometimes seem invisible

The handler would have to find the partridge and that would be far from easy among some kinds of cover. A kick into the nearby cover will send an unshot bird into flight but probably not a wounded one. Unless the dog was allowed to investigate further that bird would maybe never be seen never mind "...

To me that doesn't make much sense. My Brittany was eliminated from a field trial once for pointing and then moving in on and catching a live partridge.
