Re: How to keep the tradition alive?
Worked for a guy who had dogs he trialed and I used to go and watch. Bought a puppy and figured if I am going to own a bird dog, I better learn what they are supposed to do. No one in my family hunted so was never exposed. Hubby hunted deer and birds, but with a friends spaniel. Not much help there....

Re: Kennel boarding question
As a past kennel owner.. if your dog is boarded where all the dogs bark and are allowed to bark... he will probably come home very very tired and with a sore throat. Will that behavior continue once home... hard to tell. If this is something that concerns you (and it probably should) I suggest findi...

agree with Mtdogs on this one. Going nuts on the dog will surely not turn out well, especially with a Viz! If it's the cat setting her off, then set her up! Can you crate the cat? If so, crate her up right in front of the V's crate. When the dog is quiet and relaxes, remove cat and crate, let dog ou...

personally, I dislike dogs that are all growly in their crate. To me it shows a suspicious dog, a worried dog and one trying to scare you away by being all stupid and cage brave. Hmmmmmm, my first thought is you have to get the dog into the game it is expected to work before you worry about any shooting over it. Get her crazed first for the chase, catch, or whatever you do with pigs. Once you have that, a gunshot probably won't even phase her. 4 mos is probably a bit too you...

I used to participate in HT's, but no longer. Many reasons for it I guess. One, I was a lot younger and didn't mind all that walking so much.
