Worked for a guy who had dogs he trialed and I used to go and watch. Bought a puppy and figured if I am going to own a bird dog, I better learn what they are supposed to do. No one in my family hunted so was never exposed. Hubby hunted deer and birds, but with a friends spaniel. Not much help there....

There is no reason not to enter your setter (or pointer or Britt) in a retrieving stake if you enjoy it and they will do it.
