What a frustrating situation...I have no patience for people like that. Great you are trying to help. If they do go ahead, suggest obedience classes for the pups and not together!

Re: 2 pups one month apart: good or bad idea?
BAD IDEA. It is hard enough for knowledgable dog trainers/owners to have pups together let alone people without training skills. If they do end up getting them, they should do things separately with the pups as much as possible. No crating them together. They learn to rely on each other and have a h...

I dealt with a partial progressing to full tear in my old Hound cross. She was 9 when the this happened. I did a TPLO and that decision was the best decision I could have made. She is now 11.5 yrs old and has no lameness in her back end. She runs with the GSPs just fine. I will warn you though, and ...

Has anyone seen they have a 3year (for lack of a better term) 5 in 1 shot? I'd have to look at my bill to see exactly what was given but I was surprised to see a 3 year shot that I used to get yearly. Birddog: the "5 in 1" or DHLPP (or other versions) used to be yearly. Most places give it every 3 ...

I teach a 'leave it' command. As soon as I got both my dogs as pups I made then wait for their bfast and dinner. Of course, you start very slowly, starting with a few seconds and work your way up. Eventually they get it and understand the command 'leave it'. I visit nursing homes with my older dog a...

Oh gosh...one of those dog people. OK, if she does obedience, why can she not feed the dogs together? I can leave a raw steak on the floor and my dogs will not touch it. Mine eat together and know they better not touch the others bowl or else. In fact, one can leave a full bowl and walk away and the...

Re: Combining foods
There is no reason to combine food but no harm either. The harm with your friend's dogs is the overfeeding. 8/10 dogs are overfed. Pick your battles on who you actually say anything too. There are dogs in my obedience club (and dogs I see at obedience trials) who are jumping on a regular basis and c...

Well, here is the thing-- they will choose the cheap foods b/c as Mcbosco says, they have a fat/flavor enhancer sprayed on them. Chloe found some Old Roy as neighbor was feeding his catfish. Re: Dog food
Letting the dog choose is like letting a kid choose:-- Meal 1: grilled chicken, rice and veggies & fruit (nutritionally complete) OR Meal 2: McDonalds. Kids would pick meal 2 any day of the week b/c it tastes better BUT, it is not nutritionally complete. Dogs aren't human, we have to choose for them...

I would say you have two choices. 1. Take her to the vet and have her euthanized (if her pain is that severe). 2. Take her to the vet and discuss what the problem may be, any meds that may help, etc. Diagnose. Treat. If it were me I would opt for #2 only. But, my dogs are my kids, and I would spend ...

Where are you located? Do you have access to an orthopedic surgeon? Just curious. I am pretty sure radiographs need to be done under which the dog is sedated and the carpus is hyperextended to check the stability of the joint. As you see, rest is not working. Might be worth a trip to a specialist. S...
