Re: Puppy pointing can't be prouder :)
Nice looking dog , just keep in mind You are allowing the dog to creep, so basically you are training the dog to creep. Have someone holding the check-cord next time and always work in cross wind to the bird as was previously posted. Also do not command whoa if the dog is not going to respond positi...

Re: e collar and birds
Do not do it. If the dog is not trained on the command as it relates to the bird you risk the dog associating the e-collar with the bird. Each and every situation is different to the dog. The dog will not understand the e=collar as it relates to the situation if it has not been trained on that comma...

Re: E collar and English Setter
This is improper use of the e collar. Your shutting your dog down not training g a behavior and overlaying the e collar. If the dog does not respond to the command without the e collar it does not understand the command as it relates to the collar. Train the dog first then overlay the collar.

So at this point you are still teaching the dog what you want . The check -cord is a cue for the dog in the big picture and he has to learn that he has to stop with out it as well. Its time to lose the check - cord . You can not expect the dog to do something in the field he has not been trained to ...

I'm having a similar situation. My 16 month old pup will hold pigeons until I shoot them, so this fall I've just been letting the pup "figure it out" and bump, chase whatever with out saying anything. So far, he's barely flash pointed any birds. He's had close to 30 - 40 grouse encounters and a few...

Allowing the dog to train itself is not dog training. Dogs are motived to please themselves if the chase is rewarding thats what they will do. Every repetition of chasing birds is a lesson in chasing birds and will have to be remediated . Some people swear by allowing the bird to say whoa and when t...

Dogs will have a tendency to bite down hard on any thing they are given or obtain. This is a normal behavior but as a puppy you can work on softening the dogs bite by holding your hand in the dogs mouth and getting the dog to accept your hand there with out trying to spit it out. Get the dog used to...

This drives me out of my mind. You are not taking into consideration what a dog is and how they learn. They do not us...
