NO training in Canada

See what happens with the french running things. To make sure it does not come south of the border. Do not elect the french canidate John Kerry he is a driver of that type of swift boat. I would hope not ,but are they trying to do what they did in Australia or what.

Birddogs forever filmed a show at the lodge I guide for (Smoky River Rendenzvous Inc.) a couple years back. We release birds, but not for the show. They used or featured Springers which did pretty well on the pheasant and quail too.

One thing to do support local groups like SCI, Pheasants Forevver, Quail Unlimited, etc. Also it wont hurt my feelings to lose high fence hunts thats just for guys wanting bragging rights and to say they hunt. A few years back the antis tryed to get all hunting banned on CRP grass because those who o...

when to get a pup

I have got both of my pups from litters born in march and april, which is perfect so you can train all summer and then use dove season to help evaluate the pup. Dove season is great for pointing breeds for helping to learn to hunt dead. Plus you get the pup excited for going hunting when they see yo...

what's your poison?

Wa chukar? Are wild chukar different from pen raised? I would hope they are. What is it like to shoot at a 45 degree incline, and to chase those birds up and down hills all day. we put out chukar on our hunts at the logde I work at, and they are some running little suckers.

I live in pheasant country, in NW.Kansas I grew up hunting both pheasant and quail with the drop in of a woodcock or too. I guide so both types of bird hunts along with chuckar, an Huns. But quail is my favorite bird to chase. Probably because I can hunt ring-necks any time.

It's probably the same in dog as humans when you eat as you please and lay around, you do just that you become round. An in labs the fatter they are the shorter the hunting day for them, with or without daily exercise. That will wear on the heart.

At the preserve I work at the owner and 2 other guides free feed.Honestly I would love too, but my three would eat all the food in one day an then start on the feeder.(ha!,ha!)But I don't because of my half breed and I would have to change them in September and March when season starts and ends. I personaly feed once a day. Rather than free feed mostly due to my half breeds weimer excitable stomach during hunting season I feed the night before and give snacks on breaks an at lunch. I get a lot better results.

dog's names

Blacklab/Weimerreiner mix Daisy(ironic white flower, black dog)

Two GSP, one solid liver Sassy, and one all white with liver ears, Sammy.

I was always told to name a dog ending in vowel sounds you know like E, I, O, and Y, because it is easier for the dog to hear.
