Re: Minnesota Grouse~ 3rd hunt

I saw a wolf cross 53 just north of ash lake Looks like the Orr area doesn't have a shortage of MR Timberwolf. DogNewbie you didn't happen to stay at MelGeorges did you? I saw a guy with a young wirehair with his wife and kids come in late Friday night. I think grouse hunting is really good now, bu...

Re: Minnesota Grouse~ 3rd hunt

You said you were near Canada?? Where at I was hunting near Orr East of HWY 53 it was OK but two many guys with their 4 wheelers and OHV's not that I am against them, but that area has too many roads and trails that allow them. I saw a nice TIMBERWOLF on the way out Saturday morning on the road. Gl...

Re: Minnesota Grouse~ 3rd hunt

Well, this last weekend provided warm weather and WIND! Not exactly the kind of weather I like to hunt in, but still beats a day at work. With alot of the cover gone now the birds have less cover to hide in and the hunting for the most part was pretty good. I saw and flushed quit a few birds for the...

Re: First Time in the MN Woods - what to expect

Tim, I was in those same shoes just a few weeks ago with my pup, and she has done from my expectations really well. She hasn't locked up on a picture perfect point yet, bumbed some birds - pointed one after it flushed. Put a bell on her for sure and since my GSP is pretty dark and I have her wear a ...

Re: Minnesota Grouse~ 2nd hunt

If you were not in the woods on Saturday hunting grouse in northern Minnesota you sure missed out on some excellent hunting. Grouse were moving like crazy, I had over twenty flushes, got a few birds for the weekend. I noticed having a little wind sure helped as to having no wind. There were alot of ...

I know alot of you have known this for years, but I had to make a comment about it. I haven't had a dog in my life for around 20 years, mostly due to living arrangements. I suppose some of it has to do with financial situation. When that all came together, I had to make a decision on what breed of d...

I'll have to hold off on pulling the trigger if she bumps them. the fist two I got she had nothing to do with them, ran by them and was a good distance away when they flushed to my left - I drove a long way not to pull the trigger on that opportunity. There was one bump that did include a flush abou...

Hey guys, obviously shooting a gun around my pup wasn't the greatest idea without the proper intro. This dog has been fire proof since I got her. Thanks for the advice, I definately won't do that again anytime soon. Grouse opens in two weeks, I'll get her on birds. Supposed to be a good year for them here. How does a dog, any dog usually act when they are diagnosed with gun shyness. What do they do, example wimper? shake? hide behind somethin...

Shyness of the GUN

I introduced my 5 month to gunfire this weekend. First I started by having my girlfriend distract her and feed her some treats while I shot a few rounds in the air. I was probably about 75 feet away when I shot. She looked my way but didn't seem at all scared and wanted more treats. I did that a cou...

INTERESTING ARTICLE: a woman was walking her dogs on her land southeast of Isle. She noticed a wolf following them and when it came closer, she climbed a tree.
