Not sure I understand your statement above.......but, if she is dropping the bird when you give the "here" she is probably anticipating the stimulus regardless if it is applied or not.

I do the measuring and decide the length. My vet cuts a "v" and then applies two stitches. He prefers to use silk sutures, thinks mom doesn't mess with them as much. As was said earlier, make sure you are involved or you will probably get short tails.

I could care less what they did 100 years ago, we have the technology to find LOST dogs that are already out of contention using a simple tracking collar. That will definatly work if you stick with it, but its going to take time and then you have to have a plan when the dog comes off the check cord. This is the reason I stop to flush before the dog ever starts pointing birds, then its a simple easy progression with no checkcords (most times). The dog...

NAVHDA requirements......

Steady to wing, shot, fall. If honoring, steady through the retrieve by the pointing dog. At the water, steady to the shot at the blind, the retrieve of the duck, duck search, and honor the retrieve of another dog at the water.
