The tube boots are meant to be left open at the end. Any debris that might enter the open end of the boot will fall out when the dog raises the foot off the ground. Do you give a verbal "here" when she picks up the bird? If you do (whether you simulate or not)......is there a possibility she is anticipating the stimulation at the sound of the "here" command and drops the bird?

Not sure I understand your statement above.......but, if she is dropping the bird when you give the "here" she is probably anticipating the stimulus regardless if it is applied or not.

Two different NAVHDA chapters in Texas, find one that is near and attend a training day. You should be able to find plenty of help there.

.....I prefer to run my dogs on launchers with no checkcord. I start them as puppies popping birds for them, if they point great, if they don't that is okay also, I just launch the bird. I do the measuring and decide the length. My vet cuts a "v" and then applies two stitches. He prefers to use silk sutures, thinks mom doesn't mess with them as much. As was said earlier, make sure you are involved or you will probably get short tails.

I could care less what they did 100 years ago, we have the technology to find LOST dogs that are already out of contention using a simple tracking collar. You tell me what they did 100 years ago, you are the one advocating no tracking collars. So how should someone find a lost dog in a field trial ...

I like this stuff for cuticle abrasions and cuts, it's available from your vet. Boots are a good option too.

That will definatly work if you stick with it, but its going to take time and then you have to have a plan when the dog comes off the check cord. This is the reason I stop to flush before the dog ever starts pointing birds, then its a simple easy progression with no checkcords (most times). The dog...

NAVHDA requirements......

Steady to wing, shot, fall. If honoring, steady through the retrieve by the pointing dog. At the water, steady to the shot at the blind, the retrieve of the duck, duck search, and honor the retrieve of another dog at the water.

....I use it to put the dog in a position where it is comfortable and I can go and do whatever I want to do. "Whoa" seems to work pretty well when I want them to stay in one "place".
