Re: Question about JGHV, FF, JGV-USA and steady to WSF
I think the original poster is mistaken on how american dogs handle their birds. Yes, in throw down trials you will see the dogs trained to not move once point is established. This is because in most cases, pen birds do not move, they just hide in whatever bush they were stuffed into. However if you...

I use a PVC pipe for the food and grit. You will need to make sure your loft is absolutely mouse proof or they will make home.
I use a milk jug for water so it's easy to bang ice out. Either way, water should be changed daily to ensure its fresh.

Re: Steadying a Dog On Wild Birds
It is a sign of too much pressure being put on a dog. A dog should have 100% on the task at hand, that task is pointing birds. He is not making sure you know he is pointing. Re: Steadying a Dog On Wild Birds
I wouldnt even worry about steadying that dog. If its pointing and looking back at you then there are more issues that need to be resolved than getting the dog steady. At this point I would let that dog bump and chase as many birds as you can out it on. You need to get that drive and desire up. Maki...

Re: ever had hunting success with a rescue?
Even a free dog wouldnt make me hunt over a rescue. Besides the unknown of the dogs history the biggest factor is time and you can never get that back once it is gone. $1000 is cheap in the big picture of owning a bird dog. Do your research, find a well bred dog, and out that time into a puppy or a ...

Noone can answer how far your dog needs to range. Cover, terrain, training, individual dog. These are all factors that you take into consideration. If it's hot enough out to worry about it, then any sort of active cooling while driving is a wasted time and energy. The sun beating down on the canopy alone will heat faster than you can cool. Like mentioned above, focus on keeping the air moving across the dog and through the canopy. Open the slid...
