My Brits have no problem backing my friends Llewand it carries its tail down almost between it;s legs. I have wondered just how they do that nd I think I have figured it out. Thanks! Hmmmm. I might look into that. He can do marked retrieves of that distance pretty good, and to hand isn't a problem, at least for quail, pheasant, or dummies. The reason this really shouldnt matter is, how many guys who have a MH dog, and zero experience in FTs will actually go to the National trial for crying out loud. Exactly. Like I said earlier, the VCA has this qualifitcation in place for their NGDC, and I don't know of any dogs that have run whose ...

I had my Vizsla force-fetched last year when she was 3 with phenomenal results. I don't think there's anything about the breed that would make force-fetching a bad idea. Provided it was done correctly by a competent trainer.

One more point that previous posts just made me think of. Offhand, I can't think of a single dog that has competed at the VCA NGDC whose ONLY qualification was an MH title. They all had trial placements as well. There probably have been some, but I doubt there have been many - in which case that qua...

Re: MH as qualification for National Field Championships?
The VCA does include a MH title as a qualification for the hour-long National Gun Dog Championship. Personally, I always took it as another way of encouraging people to compete. The NGDC gets decent entries but could stand to gain a better footing, and one way to do that is encourage entries. They'r...

We hold 3 trials per year, all of them walking. We average between 90-110 entries, which more often than not, are the biggest entries in the state. I think a large part of it is your 'target market'. You CAN walk in a horseback trial, although in some horseback trials it's going to be awfully tough to do. Some judges don't care. Some do. I'd say most are probably more concerned with the dog, and if it's competitive, it'll get attention. But make no mistake, you're usually at a distinct disadvant...
