Re: MD: Tail docking/dew claw removal legislation
Why is it necessary? MD has much more important things to worry about than this nonsense..... Like not wasting all its citizens money and freedoms.

Re: National Championships
Maybe we should concentrate on the dog that finds birds, can turn quicker, and is bred to retrieve and be a nice calm house dog and family pet. For most people those are the characteristics they want in a dog. Ezzy First off I agree with you Ezzy, but what you describe is all the pointers I've ever...

Re: Shotgun for Small Person
I let youngins and ladies use my 20ga Browning B 80 (same as beretta 303), the beretta is lighter due to aluminum receiver but the all steel browning works fine.
Great design very few to no problems and can be found used if you search for one.....

Its for prevention..... Others might be better to comment here but the issue is if killed off quickly you run the risk if clogging the dogs heart. Preventative like ivermec only kills larval heartworms so its a long slow process to take care of completely. Why vets charge so much is beyond me. Again...

I see, I was thinking it might just be the truck, I've got one that hates getting on the truck, but the truck is the issue not the box.

If you were to hunt the marshes and mud of the Delmarva (Chesapeake and Delaware bays) not to mention the wind and the waves for divers and seaducks, you would better understand. While u can hunt with an untrained retriever a finished high drive long legged retriever is invaluable. Especially in the...

The ones who could care less most likely weren't nurtured when very young like the excellent video you refer to....that's basically what I've done with all my dogs retrievers and pointers for the last 30 years....one of the few good things I learned from an uncle who ruined more dogs than anyone lol...

I'm from the land of chessies, they haven't been around a real long time either....to say retrieves been bred out is an exaggeration. Again all the pointers I have from AF trial lines have all retrieved as young pups and never choosen for it, and I'm to believe its been bred out of retrievers in nea...

Don't agree much with your husband ms cage....sorry. A dog isn't FFd because it won't retrieve most times. A lot of times its to clean up delivery ( which is handler caused a lot of times) it also puts a dog in a different frame of mind making them more business like in their work ethic. It also lay...

What county do you live in? Look at my Pale Rider dog in my signature lines, picture on the right is about 20 months old, picture on the left is 7 years old. Same feed over that whole period...... So that feed is killing him on the inside but not on the outside or performance wise???? Denial buddy ....

Its the same here with well bred dogs....key word being "well bred" ....there is tho a lot of not so well bred here. Even pointers not bred for retrieve in ages will go and come like that if encouraged young. 12 weeks http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s2/can3621/dawgs/9-26-2010005.jpg http://i148.p...

Dog Dr. responded to a post i made concerning this a year or more ago and agreed that lowering fat and protein was of no real benefit and may actually be counterproductive in older dogs.

Re: Whoa and sit...
As pups i put them on a leash inside the house in the evenings. When I am watching TV or reading or on the computer I put the leash under or around my foot. As young ones they will fuss but when they calm down and lay by my feet I give them praise and a bone or something they like and tell them "goo...

Yes, I have another dog, my male, that took out for a quick run...we had snow over ice over snow over ice....at some point he cut the back of his rear leg just above the paw almost down to the tendons, it was a nasty jagged cut. I can only guess it was ice below the snow or a piece of shale. He's be...

Having trained professionally you'd be surprised how many dogs sit after owners drill that into them. In the context of paying someone to start a dog , it wastes valuable training time that didnt need wasted. I can understand it for versatile dogs but it could still wait until initial training is th...

"You can't put something into a dog without taking something out" this is an old saying that isn't necessarily always true. I taught the concepts of blinds, multiple marks, memory birds . without taking a thing out....on the contrary it put more into the dog, trust and built the love of the retrieve...
