For the OP : If you mean a great field trial dog is one that wins field trials against its peers, please define what a great birddog is and how it can be compared to its peers. It's difficult to measure a known entity against an unknown.

I never carry them out and let them swim back. I haven't seen it to be a confidence booster. They need to want to do it. I like to use other water happy dogs to tempt them into the water to play & to let them see how it's done. Very cold water can be a deterent.

I'd have to go with the 6" Raging Judge Magnum for the 3" Chamber, .454 Casull & .45 LC. At 4.54 lbs. though it's pretty heavy. I prefer the Thompson Center .45 LC, 3" .410.

I now have another DC-40 collar & have not experienced any issues to date. I use the DC-30 & the two DC-40s weekly. I prefer the 320 slightly more than the 220 & use the 320 most often.

Just having a little fun with your post. Been to a couple of field trials myself. You're probably familar with the last half doz. years or so NGSPA & GSPCA AA National Champs. Now what ratio of light to dark dogs do you recall? Of course these dogs have to still be goin' away at time.
