Re: My dog needs help.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions. How did the other dogs there look and act. I don't think a trainer would pick out one dog to abuse. If all of the other dogs there looked and acted happy and healthy then I would think there is some kind of specific issue with your dog. I own several dogs and keep the...

Re: Difference in Homing and Feral Pigeons
A homing pigeon is the equivalent of an English setter or Labrador retriever that was bred on purpose to do a specific job. A feral pigeon is the equivalent of a mixed breed dog that may or may not have a little setter or lab in him.

If you have access to wild birds then run him in areas where he can find them. Have no expectations concerning bird work. Let him point,...

I have pointers but I do not use the PS/PF system. I expose puppies to birds at 10 to 12 weeks. I try to wait until the puppy is big and bold enough that a bird isn't going to scare him. Do you have access to at least one pigeon? If so, take a four feet or so piece of 3/4 or 1/2 inch pvc pipe, or a broom handle will do. Drill a hole in the end and tie a three feet piece of twine to it, tie the other end to a pigeon's leg. Take the dog to the field, carry the pigeon in one hand and t...

I agree that the dog probably needs more exercise. The cheapest and easiest fencing solution is to run a strand of electric fencing along your existing fence. A good charger is less than $200. A ground rod, some wire and some insulated connectors will cost another $50, maybe less. Run the wire about...

I always keep two or three. For the first year or so, I don't think it is any more effort, or time to run two or three puppies than it is to run one. I'm no expert, but I think that you have a couple of things going on. First of all, you may very well have a bully in the group that needs to be culled. Secondly, your coop is over crowded. The common rule is 2 square feet of floor space per bird. 4 x 4 = 16 square feet, or room for 8 birds.

The inbreeding will not affect them. Start moving the distances out some, if you got a dud in the bunch, he won't make it home and therefore will be out of your breeding pool.
