Quail home range question
This is my first year hunting quail, as i just moved to TX from PA. I have pinpointed a few coveys that i have been hunting every weekend. Sometimes i dont even shoot, depends on the dogs. But even so i usually just shoot one or two. The cover is thin areas along field edges so they dont have too ma...

Re: Any down sides to neutering a bird dog?
Ok thanks Karen..i just need to be more patient as usual..Guess i ask about this too much but i never thought anything of it until some hunting buddies have been making comments.I feed them twice a day, right now a 30/20. She does practically inhale her food so I will have try the cookie tray. So wh...

Re: e-collar questions
I use the short ones with my GSP's but i could see how the long prongs would be more consistent. I really like the tone feature as a recall. I started putting the collar on first session and hitting the tone button while giving the "here" command and roping her in with the check cord and praising he...

Re: Any down sides to neutering a bird dog?
could spaying a female cause her to be excessively skinny? I always heard it can cause them to be overweight. I had one spayed just after 6months (15months now) and she is really skinny like a rail - can see posterior pelvis bones. She seems healthy though - lots of energy, eats everything, no worms...

Re: New Weimaraner puppy & pup owner new to gun dogs
I agree with starting him on live birds asap. I got my 2nd GSP in September (she was 4months). Worked her 2-3 times a week to intro birds and the gun, teaching the here command between bird contacts. Been hunting over her every weekend the past month, and she is doing great - steady to flush most of...

Re: quail species
I use bobwhites and they fly pretty good, just dont flush that well all the time. Pigeons work good too and you can trap them.

Re: Purina pro plan performance
Sorry to all, I am new to forums and didnt realize this post would cause arguments. But anyways, my dogs seem to be doing fine on it. These are my first two gun dogs, and I have fed nutro, TOTW, and innova. I really havent noticed a difference with any of them. Although the one is looking pretty ski...

Re: Purina pro plan performance
The first ingredient listed is "chicken". Doesn't that mean it is the main ingredient and there is more chicken than anything else in the food? I was comparing it to nutro high energy all life stages which cost more and the first ingredient is chicken meal, although they are both 30/20. So i figured...

Purina pro plan performance
I switched over to this because I got another GSP, mainly to save money and it is all life stages, so convenience too. 30%protein and chicken is the first ingredient so it seems alright. I was feeding innova prime. These are my first two dogs so Im not sure if the money savings will be worth it. Any...

GSP genetics
I just got another GSP a couple of months ago. I have two now from different breeders. Physically they have some obvious differences. They are both good tempered, birdy and should be good bird dogs. Not questioning the quality of breeding, just asking for some input. The new dog (6months) has much l...
