I have trained many AKC Master dogs and countless guide dogs. Some were soft dogs, who did not like pressure. I do agree with "Slistoe" that most people don't care what the dog does after it finds points a bird. I only ran a field trial once so I don't have that experience. But we train very stylish...

IMO there are no specific dos and don'ts in training a bird dog. It is nearly impossible to ruin a decently bred puppy. I agree mostly with what Shags wrote. Everything pretty much works out and the dog figures out who is the leader of the pack. the idea of giving the command only once is great. Alm...

Yeah.. Had that happen a lot with my Expeditions. Pretty easy to deskunk the dog with the baking soda and peroxide mix, if it is not too cold. I get accustomed to the smell, but eating in a restaurant is an experience. Makes social distancing easier though.........Cjhills

Force Fetch is overrated and usually not necessary. It is tough on the dog and the trainer. Unless your are tough enough to do it, you are probably better off having a pro do it or forgetting it unless the dog really needs it........Cj

I have always favored our DNR managing the wolf in MN. I think we have than the DNR count.
We see a few while grouse and deer hunting. We hear a lot of howling where we hunt Grouse. Never had one get a dog. They are Probably blamed for a lot of problems they do not cause......Cj.

Some dogs seem to have a hard time with woodcock. I think they have very little scent. I have seen dogs nearly run them over. If she has not had many wood cock points this might go away as she gets more experience. If not a quiet caution might help.

I have always found that vests cause more issues than they solve. Mostly burrs getting in inside of them .
The long sleeved one on the poodle looks like it might work.

Ryan's post is my thinking also. If you have a good supply of wild birds, forget the launcher. He might be easily intimidated by the launcher and it is easy to have a malfunction. It is not what the trainer thinks is pressure, but what the dog thinks is pressure. the trainer needs to figure that out or hope it goes away. It is also the biggest cause for dogs that sit on point.....Cj
