Don't rule out fleas. A single bite can cause that reaction in a highly allergic dog. Also look for possible environmental sources, particularly plants. I agree with the thyroid panel, also.

What is the alleged mix? Have a picture? Some dogs don't play. Some dogs don't fetch. Rescue dogs are not a known quantity and if you wanted a dog that would play, you should have tested him out first.

Use pyrantal or fenbendazole every three weeks until you put the pup on monthy heartworm prevention. Even with HWP, you will need to treat for tapeworms if you see them.
